If you've never worn a cage before, then a month is a long time to go, the first time.

If you are wearing a poor design or one of an improper fit, then any period of time is a long time to go.

You may be better served with a different cage, or ring size. The design of the ring, such as round vs. oblong or triangle, makes a big difference. The fit is critical.

The ring design and your anatomy may lead to pinching or hot spots, which with the right ring are adjusted until comfort is achieved, and shouldn't be that troublesome during wear.

During natural physiological response leading to erection or an attempt, the cage and or ring may become very uncomfortable; the nature of being caged. I found that the discomfort led to a physiological response: the undercarriage stopped trying to erect, nearly as much. The body seemed to quickly learn that it wasn't happening, and that it had negative consequences.

The downside is that since beginning to wear a cage, erections without the cage are far less frequent. The reports of others here do not seem to reflect that, but it's certainly been the case for me. Without the cage, I rarely get erect now.

I think you'd be far happier with a change in design and/or ring size. Chastity, however you practice it, shouldn't be a miserable experience.
