A warning to new users

  1. This website's owners refuse to remove your content from the site if you want to close your account. Not that they can't, they simply refuse. So think twice about whether you really want to join this community - not, perhaps, because you might care about what you have posted existing forever on the internet, but perhaps because of the asinine mentality that gives them such disrespect for your discretion over your content.

    Adios, folks!

  2. Almost all web forums are like that. Because of the administrative overhead and because removing posts wrecks the flow of conversations.

Removing a post does not remove it from existence. It will still exist if someone has quoted you, it will still exist in any web crawlers -- search engines, archives, etc. It will also still exist if someone has taken a screenshot.

Once something is on the internet, it's there forever. Seriously, that's something that everyone should know by now. It's not like that's a new concept.

  3. Hi
Exactly that is why we don't delete accounts as this is a legacy site and we keep things in order and our threads intact otherwise they become garbage to try and read.

You don't actually need to get your account deleted because if you stop posting then it will just sink lower and lower till it would take a lot of time to find it.

  4. Having just looked at his posts all four of them (plus the one above) there doesn't seem to be anything too revelatory in them ...

Except for the fact that he seems to have used his real name when choosing a username.

I know, I know he should have thought this through before first posting about what can be a pretty secretive/taboo kink in some peoples eyes but is there a way to change your username when it set or have it changed for you? Then people who Google his name might not get such an interesting surprise and wonder if it is the **** ******** [changed from their username handle just-in-case] they know.

Of course I may have misjudged this completely - if so please feel free to carry on without me.

Precisely. Removing an account completely involved removing all the person's posts plus everybody's posts on threads they'd started, It ruins things for othr members,

This is one of the problems with the otherwise excellent Fetlife. Much of my input there is gone as it was in threads started by vanished members, and much more no longer makes sense as it replies to other posts now wiped.

Change of name can be done by Admin - need not be a problem.

The thing is, it is exactly the huge degree of respect for the content of members here that the site owner chooses not to delete peoples content when they leave.

Imagine how threads would look if some active member chose to leave and had all their posts deleted? Threads would be unreadable, all meaning lost, the place would look like H+M after a big sale (a complete mess and half empty).

It is to 'someone's' great credit that they did not do a massive hatchet job to their own content when they left recently. The opportunity was there in spades, but they evidently have respect not only for their own content, but also the content of the site in general.
    Unlike, it seems, Mr E******r.

  11. Numpty? That made me snort when I read it.

  12. I just realised that the word gives away my military past! It's a derisive word used often by NCOs towards their recruits and juniors who regularly show how their life choices are less than what is expected of them.

  14. @Joroincharge@Joroincharge I know this post is old but you mentioned fetlife in here. I've heard a lot about it, but I have no idea what it actually is. Sorry if I'm bothering you, I just was curious to what it is.

  15. Not for this that's for sure!

I've only done it on a couple of special interest sites where the community was so small it was obvious to anyone in the know who everyone was anyway. Odd how quite a few post on lovehoney under their real name. I'm impressed by their openness.

  16. Oh no... You mean I should have used a sudanim?

  17. I agree that it would be nice to be able to remove content if one decided to leave a site.
That said, terms of use when we sign up to most sites say that what content we create becomes the property of the site and their owner(s). So we give consent to have it used as they see fit.

So our choices are to participate on a site and accept the rules or not. Not means either leaving or eventually being thrown off.

I for one will speak up when I do t like something. I'm not afraid to complain. But I also try and make my points valid and worthy of discussion, OP has done neither. So I'll just say that I'm so sorry that OP feels this way and now that we've been graced with their incredible wisdom, I'm so sad that CM will be imploding very soon as everyone rushes to leave. I'm hoping not to be trampled in the mad rush, and I hope the Internet can handle it as I'd hate to think that we destroyed the Internet because of the horrible folks running this site.

So to help ease things, I'm going to keep contributing until the site implodes and I'll turn the lights out if given the chance until then I'm looking forward to the usual stuff.

  18. I'm new here and just this morning found some very old posts (six or so years) with some very good information on sizing and choices for the Jail Bird I am planning on purchasing. I don't know if the poster is still a member, but thanks for keeping the posts!
