I don't think that it's a good idea to not have immediate access to a key by the key holder. Should a medical emergency arise that is serious enough to require immediate medical attention for your husband, not having access to a key could have serious consequences. I really think that your should reconsider the wisdom of having the key "hidden in a town 4 hours away".

 

No. I admit it is a very desirable fantasy to do something like this but in the end I’d wind up following Studmouse47’s advice. That said, if you use a padlock usually bolt cutters will work anyway.

 

Depending on the size of the cage and the size of the lock, the bolt cutter could possibly be to large to wrap around the harp on the pad lock.

 

Sounds like fun! Don’t sweat the, “you must have a key nearby in case of emergency folks”, if there is a life threatening emergency that requires removal of a chastity device, they have the tools for quick removal. We have a safe deposit box in another State, she has toyed with the idea.

Our emergency key is in an envelope with a sketch that would be destroyed by the tape over it being removed. Accessible but completely tamper proof, it's there but never to be used. So if the operating key was hidden for 3 months in a remote location that would be acceptable for us though not something I would particularly like.
