    Hi,

My wife and I are trying to find a starter cage for me to wear. We're increasingly interested in caging. But we don't want to spend loads as it'd be the first cage. If it doesn't fit well or feel ok, it'd be a waste of money.

We'd want a metal cage. We think they look better and would keep more clean. And, if possible, a variety of sizing options. All too often, it seems cages and rings only come in 1 size.

Any advice on where should we look for our 1st cage?

I went to Chinese market - there are a couple of outlets, like Dhgate or Alieexpress (sp?). My first cage came with three ring sizes, which seems to be the most sensitive measurement for a good fit. Most here recommend being at or slightly below your flaccid length for length of cage. Personally, I had more fit problems with the gap between the ring and cage, which isn't something you can change with inexpensive models. I'm sure you'll get more advice from others, good luck on starting your journey.

Thank you for the reply. We're not sure we trust the quality and materials of cages made in the Chinese market, though.

As @MissyB said DH Gate or AliExpress. You can get a Cb6000 or Holy Trainer for under 20 bucks I think. Many of those come with several size rings. The cb also lets you change the gap size. I wouldn't recommend it for long term, but it would be cheap and you can get a good idea what works for you. Find the right combo and you won't spend cash on something you won't be able to wear. Just a good starting point.:+1:

I've not had much luck with cheap cages. They always tend to come with an unfinished seem, or slight ridge somewhere.

Whatever cage you choose, start first by testing the locking mechanism Before you lock up for the first time. Then plan a short lockup (maybe a few hours) to test the fit and comfort. If something is seriously wrong, you should know within that time. Make sure to remove the cage and visually inspect the skin underneath to be sure it hasn't been causing any damage.

If you found the cage comfortable for that initial short lockup, then you can gradually start to increase your lockup periods.

You might also want to keep a small bottle of lube nearby The balltrap ring can rub your skin, lube helps a lot.

Thanks for the replies. Are there any places to get starter cages that won't be Chinese, though? We're really not sure about quality control from that market.

My first cage was the CB6000s
It's a relatively comfortable starter cage I was able to wear for a few days at a time. Unfortunately the market is now flooded with cheap chinese clones of that cage, So I have a hard time actually recommending it anymore.
The sad reality is If you are paying less than about $100 for it, you should be suspicious

Alana thanks. I was getting the impression all the cheap stuff is Chinese :(.

Janes, thanks for that website. Those cages are more expensive than we'd be happy with for a 1st cage, though.

May I suggest first measuring yourself and then checking the for sale/wanted section under classifieds in these forums.

Maybe you can find a used cage to meet your needs within your budget.
A metal cage can be sterilized in boiling water.

My last two cages have been from China . The materials and quality are good and I am locked 24 / 7 . You just have to wait a few weeks to get it.
    Good luck

Den you didn't have a problem with rough spots from a poor finish? Or your skin reacting badly to the material?

No they have improved over the last couple of years. A lot of them are made from surgical stainless steel . Happygo has good materials and good finishing . They also have a wide selection of stanless steel cages in different sizes and shapes. You might want to start out with a hinged ball trap instead of a solid ring. For me they were easier to put on,but now I am wearing a solid ring ball trap .

Thanks for the tip. Did you have problems with the hinge catching against your skin, though?

It's good to hear that they have improved.

Whichever cage you choose, I would use your finger to thoroughly explore the surface for rough spots. sharp edges, loose seems, etc. before you let it anywhere near your more tender bits

    Trust but Verify
Especially if you are trusting a cheaper cage.

Most come with a piece of rubber on them over the hindge. Take a look at them. I do find the solid ring better as far as comfort and fitting. Getting it on was a problem for me until I figured out how to do it .

My first steel cage was Chinese from Amazon, and was only my second cage. I was in it 24/7 for about four months before going custom. Quality was perfectly fine.

It’s definitely a smart route for a starter cage to figure out how your sizing works and preferred style.

Exactly. The forsale section is full of custom cages that were measured wrong. Better to waste $30 than $300.

I have 4 chinese devices, all of them a step up from the last.

    Metals guy here.
First, you're right to be sceptical of the Chinese merchandise. A number of "stainless steel" devices have proven to be carbon steel that was chrome or nickel plated.

That said, you're still better off trying a few to get an idea what size and shape is comfortable for you. With prices under $20, you can try out a dozen different devices before you're ready to have a custom device.

Now, all that said, I spent less than $50 ordering a few similar devices, cycling through them, and settling on my current Chinese device, with which I'm very satisfied with both the workmanship and the quality.

I would recommend looking on DHGate.com, and check the A271, A272, A273, A274 devices. Those models are well suited for newbs, are made from 302/304 stainless, and are interchangeable between the cages and cuff rings. All use the integrated barrel locks.

I, myself bought several, and have been wearing the A272 on and off for over 2 years, and on 24/7 for over a year and a half. It's literally the best device I own.

Your fear is excessive, I've been one for years. Try a variety of small Chinese cages, especially those with ergo back rings like A273 or A277. Aliexpress, Amazon and eBay are all the same, just different prices.

If you're that worried about metal quality and price, I've designed a line of cages called "Cherry Keeper" in my shop and they are 3D printed in Nylon, and are open bar style cages. A ring and cage will generally set you back under $50 and all the rings and cages are interchangeable - if the cage is great but the ring is too big, you can order just a ring.

I can't recommend Lock The Cock enough. They have steel, silicone, plastic, and resin cages. The quality is great and their products are affordable. None of the cheaply made half mold plastic that breaks and they have lot of helpful information on sizing and safety.

A lot said above all /well most.. is good advice
The chinese ones are much better quality these days... We have some
do avoid anything made anywhere that does not state it is made of 316 surgical stainlessor maybe 314
everything else is extremely likely to be a regretfull purchase.

do not be surprised to find within a year or two you may well have had several in your search for 'the one' and even then you will ways have an eye out for something that bit better...but we get like that with cars houses clothes..etc
