Absolutely - as long as people dont start cussing each other or being rude, the conversation is well worth having. Commemorative threads are just not the place for it.

That's probably a good thing. Usually those conversations attract folks who dont know how to stay civil, which is a shame but there it is.

 

I'm more than willing to participate. Yes our nation owes a lot to the allied forces and most notably the UK, Canada and Poland and the US too. If you put it in a broader perspective, add Bretton Woods and Operation Paperclip to the discussion.

My reason for asking to stay OT was that politicians could have been right or wrong, but heroes like @Vinny dodged bullets for what they thought was the right thing in those days. We are arguing with hindsight and a shitload of information which was not available in those days. I salute you again Vinny.
