If it was titanium do you think he would have stripped it?

You can also just drill through the screw and rethread the cage. Use cutting oil to keep bit and cage cool.

Be careful of the "permanent" thing. It might have to come off in an emergency. You're really better off getting the screw out and using another cage until you can get one that works for you.

I showed this to husband. He seems to think the screw is made of some cheap metal which is why it stripped. He's mentioned he's seen some of these cages made of cheap metal or had parts like that. He said if you get one like that, don't twist the locking screw real hard.

He said you can try stuff like E-Z Outs or drilling small holes in the head and putting a regular screw driver in it. He did mention the rubber band trick, too. He said if you use drills or ny other tool with a motor, be sure to do siomething to keep the cage cool, since the tools with motors can get the metal hot real fast. He said there's an oil you can use, but it can get messy. He said for this,. usually ice or frozen veggies will do the job.

Husband said if the screw is stripped, the threads probabl;y are damaged. He said if it's cheap metal, you wind up drilling out the screw anyhow and making the whole thing useless. He;s seen some of these cages made of what he calls "pot metal" or maybe "zarmick" (I think that's the word he said. I should have written it down). He said zarmic (?) is usally real brittle but the pot metal is soft and screws made of it strip easy..

I doubt that any titanium cages use titanium fasteners. Titanium fasteners are incredibly expensive, because cutting threads into titanium is ridiculously difficult.

This should be your first attempt. Use the course paste. It is a tried and true method. In a pinch, you might use a scouring powder. Make a thick paste and put it into the screw head followed by the key.

This does not require power tools and does not generate heat.

If you do drill out the hole you can use steel and epoxy resin (steely) to fill the old hole. Coat a new screw in Vaseline, then cover in the epoxy then press it into the hole and heat to cure. Then once hard, slowly back the screw out and voila....new threaded hole.

See...Secretly it's what you wished for! Try the Super Glue trick and see if you can get some of the glue to trickle down into the screw threads!

Hello mr Crowe a photo of the stripped out screw head might be handy.
would it give you any relief to see your key holder given a blow job to someone else.

We got a better look at the screw today and it's not as bad as we thought. Slow and gentle should get it out. I've been with my wife/KH for 14 years and we belong only to each other, so no, nobody else will be getting that BJ. She actually "threatened" to give me one today and said "Oh yeah, you're out of commission. Sucks to be you!"

to make it more secure use Loctite to fuse the threads.

No loctite needed. The screw is already plenty tight, to the point that the head started to round off. By more secure, we're trying to come up with a way to connect the cage to a ball stretcher, and with the PA, it will essentially be locked on using 3 different screws. Something like a ball trap, but underneath is what we're going for.

Lot of good ideas on this thread. What order should you try these in?

Take it easy and safe. You will surely find a way to solve it. Otherwise, there is certainly a blacksmith who can help you.

Did you try again to get it out? It sounds like you are describing a Lori's cage (recessed head), and if so good luck. I had a similar situation recently, and after many hours of trying the hammer trick and several others gave up and drilled it out and used a screw extractor. They use a particularly soft/gummy stainless for the screws and the minute you dont have a perfect fit it will strip (if the screw has been torqued properly). That same SS is a pain to drill. Took another 3 hours to get free, with 1 injury. I never ever want to go thru that again!

    Wishing you better luck.
