I ran a Mazda dealership when the first ones went on sale. I've been in the biz for 40 years now and have never seen the mania that car caused. Lasted a couple years. I really like the first gen. As someone who owned multiple mgbs, it was stunning how good the car was right out of the gate. Great gear box, handles perfectly and super low maintenance. I've been driving r170 slks for fun the last decade but I'm still tempted to buy an old Miata.

I’m at a tad over 750 rwhp at the moment. It’s a lot of fun.

    Gearhead rule number one:

You can't talk about your car without posting a pic of it.

    Picture please!

It was a lot of fun and we drove that car everywhere, coming back to Boise from the Oregon coast we averaged 35mpg. I wish we still had it, it really was a great all around car.

That’s not my 540i but mine is identical and as clean (my pics sucked). That car is a lot of fun, I’m hoping to put some time and money into it at some point to eek a little more performance out of it. But for now it’s in good condition and I drive it a couple of times a week to keep miles low on it and my truck. BMW only has 130k mi on it and I’m trying to keep the miles low.

I had a Mazda MX6 with a V6 in it. She would scratch in the first 3 gears (manual transmission). The most fun car I have ever had.

I'm a retired insurance claims adjuster. I hated it when I got a claim involving a Miata. Without fail, whether the owner was the insured or a claimant, the owners were a pain in the ass to deal with.

Roof open is the only condition a roadster should be driven. The top is only desogned to keep rain and bird poop out of the car while it is parked.

I also struggled a bit with my miata. I am about 192 cm and my hair alwaxs touched the roof. So I took out the seats and cut out 5 cm of the upholstery.
From then on we went into a symbiosis. Perfectly fit.

What I meant is that I don't see running my miata that hard. I didn't mean that I didn't think my miata is a fine daily driver

I've taught my son how to drive the stickshift and he's taken his girlfiend for a spin with the top down. Very gratifying for me to see his enjoyment.

Also replaced the tires and had a precision alignment performed, improving both ride comfort and handling. Bought an orbital buffer and a bunch of detailing supplies to keep it looking good

If only it had been hair! I could only sit in it with my head at an angle.
The problem was also the legs, the seating position reminded me of my first car, a Trabant. I could / had to steer and change gears with my knees, because my legs were so bent.
    Similar with the Miata.
Unfortunately, I have not found a photo with seat position, but many are certainly wondering what a "Trabant" is:

Oh okay. Yes. It was quit complicated to slip inside. Turning on the seat has only been possible when the door has been open.
And I had to put tha seat at the one and only position. True. Lol

Unfortunately we had so sell it because of too much rust. And a broken ECU.

    One of my restorations.

Have had this one the last 15 years. It’s like an MG, but the heater works.
