I agree with JR. You need to tell her you found it and ask forgiveness for seeking it out. Being kept caged is a privilege, so you shouldn't do anything to jeopardize it. You also might buy her a lockbox with a combo lock so she can safety leave it in your house when she's gone.
I would tell her you found the key. Communication and honesty on BOTH ENDS without recourse based on communication and honesty... Given that key searching is on your mind so much it "came to you in a dream" like Joseph Smith coming to terms with a new found religion... Your keyholder might want to put it in some type of safe or lockbox... or possible keep it on them as a necklace or a charm for a bag.
I agree -- confess your sins and beg for her mercy! You could offer to place the key in a sealed envelope or between two pieces of tape, with photographic evidence, until she returns. It's not perfectly secure, but it will be a nice gesture of repentance and will help you to avoid temptation to do something stupid.
The disappointment she will feel is not worth the few seconds of gratification that release might bring
