Do you get to keep the photo negatives?

In other words do you own your pictures or if you want copies do you have to go through the photographer?

What will the photographer do with your negatives? Keep them? Sell them?

These are going to be some extremely intimate pictures of you and your Wife, you are going to want to ensure you have full control of what pictures were taken.

If it's 20 photos and it takes an hour to edit each photo then it's not a huge hourly rate for an artist who's work you presumedly admire.

Anyway, it's not likely you'll want 20 photos from a single photo session. Probably more like 5 will be enough.

 

Make sure the photographer affirms (in writing) that all the photos are “works made for hire” and that you exclusively retain ALL RIGHTS to the images, including any and all copyrights, AND that the photographer has NO RIGHTS of any kind in or to the images.

If you don’t do that ... the photographer owns the images and the copyrights!

Most professional photographers use digital these days. There are no negatives. Trust is imperative, as is a written contract clearly stating image ownership.

 

They may also want such a high price because they expect to lose out on the distribution revenue if they kept them. They could reuse them or sell them as stock for more so this is their fee.

Of they are repulsed by the thought of editing a naked dude and so charge more.

 

Photographers have to pay their mortgage. And if they have a budoir studio, they have to pay that too.

In Los Angeles pro photags are plentiful. Such a session would only cost a few hundred bucks.

Perhaps drive from Hampton Roads to New York for a weekend of fun that includes a photo session?

 

Not a pro but I have done some work for people ......all in a location they pick I take the photos they keep the memory card I use. They have all the photos taken and I have non ....... I do ask that they send some for me to keep so they can block out faces so on it they like

 

That's actually a fairly reasonable rate. Granted I live in one of the most expensive cities in the US, so my perspective on pricing might be a little skewed.

When my wife explored getting boudoir photos done for my birthday, sessions were about $2-3,000 (closer to $4k now). Couples always cost more (another person to wrangle and re-touch if needed). Not all boudoir photographers work with couples, and fewer are kink friendly.

I'm glad that you were able to find a photographer that meets all of your needs though.

 

When I took photography classes, I had to hire models out of my own pocket. They ranged from $25-$75 per hour, depending on the location and content of the photos. Lots of people do this, and it is a cash gig. The only catch is that you have to be willing to sign over the rights to the photographer so they can use the photos for class credit.

 

How did the shoot go and were you happy with the results?

 

Photography is a very tough business. People don't value other people's time. And most don't understand the skill and investment that professional photographers have.

Too many think that anyone with a camera can take great pictures. The problem is few can take great photographs. Kinks, couples, weddings, sports, etc all require different skills.

I'm not sure what's fair but as someone who considered photography as a profession then chose a different path I know what's involved in running a business and in making a living.

For OP I'm not sure what's fair. I will say that EVERYTHING in live can be negotiated. So I'd suggest discussing price, options and what is fair for both sides. The photographer may have some room. Maybe say you'd like X number of pics and will buy that many. Can they give you a package to include you picking the best X ones.

 

All i know is people don't value art, including professional photography, as much as they should. Not everyone can do it well. All you have to do is look at photos on here or in most family albums. But like tom says, try making a deal for what you need, but remember this is likely a one time thing and you want the best result you can get. If you really don't want to pay a pro, get another kinkster to take them.
