    I presume that when someone says "please take time off" that really they want time added. So it'd be wrong to take time off...Right?

    Jay, I look at it like this, either he was really angling for more time, like you suggest, in which case adding time is doing what he wants, or he's regretting asking for more time originally now that he will be locked for over a year, and is being a brat by asking for a time reduction, in which case the best thing to do is punish him with more time.

    So, it's either add more time for good reasons, or add more time for bad reasons, but... (and you can probably see the commonality here, right?)
