The problem is the lack of a general guideline. You should ask her what the default option is. "When I've been let out and allowed to come, you expect me to": 1. Put myself back in the cage ASAP 2. Ask you what to do 3. Quietly await instructions

Let her know you considr you being locked is the default state unless told differently by her. Accidently being locked when she wanted you unlocked is never going to be looked upon as unfavourably as being unlocked when you should not be.
