Just for the record (and to possibly reduce some confusion)...... "Normal" is a cycle on a washing machine. (just sayin')
Definition of normal - conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected, (of a line, ray, or other linear feature) intersecting a given line or surf. More perverted than this? Can it be?
The viewpoint of the majority (even of 51%) is what constitutes 'Normal'. Problem is, you only need 2 to change their minds and then it can be the opposite, so it's not a very good class of things to use for a metric.
Interesting discussion. Since the Enlightenment/Renaissance/Reformation, western society has determined that the definition of normal can be as broad as the definition of abnormal, and has considered that to be an important part of an "enlightened" or liberal (in the Classical, not the modern political sense) culture. For at least some concepts/things, there is a version of "normal" and "abnormal" that can be accepted by the great majority of people. Example: I live in New Orleans, LA. Virtually anyone would agree that "normal" weather in the Summertime here is hot, humid and rainy. Likewise, virtually anyone would agree that freezing temperatures and snow (as we have had today) is "abnormal" in New Orleans at anytime of year. In contrast, it is very unlikely that a majority of Americans could agree on a precise definition of "normal" sexual behavior. Sexuality is as varied as each individual person. Example: as I type this, I am wearing a cock cage and pink panties. (under multiple layers of clothing because it's so d@#m cold!). I'd be willing to bet a majority of (but by no means all) Americans would consider that "abnormal". (the irony being that no one except my beautiful wife/KH knows about or would even suspect that I participate in chastity) In other words, while there is a consensus on what is "normal" for some things, for many other things there is none. And we should all be very glad for that.
