Rather than the discussion on porn access as of the 15th of July being side tracked perhaps it is time to consider the pros cons and attitudes towards porn.

I do not recall when or even it was on this site but I do recall criticising both newspapers and the retailers of them.
Glossy magazines aside the daily newspaper I thought back than was in moral decline. Not that I thought I cared until I thought about it carefully.

When I was a kid with a paper round there were couple of magazines not glossy but in colour, they were not on display they were sold to the knowing from Under The Counter gasp shock horror and in a brown paper bag

One was a naturist magazine H&E .. Health and Efficency ... and at least the pictures were of ordinary people of all shapes sizes and ages ( adults only .. I think) naked as nudists are inclined to be at times though often at a distance and with genitals conveniently out of sight or focus or both. The other 'Parade' portrayed women, models, between 18 and 30 I suppose, mostly in their underwear or topless. Sometimes completely naked but with their backs to the camera. Not a pubic hair in sight... and before almost everyon started removing them. All pretty tame and arguably harmless stuff.

For a few years along with newspapers ..tucked inside and still in their paper bags.. I delivered some of those magazines so obviously being an adolescent male I got to see them. I saw them evolve they became partially then wholly in colour and eventaully in Parade they started showing pubic hair in photos taken from slightly to one side. Fur but no genitals and rarely did any of the women have any clothes on.

Progession the merits of which are up to the individual. At that age df course I wanted to see more.

Playboy existed of course back then but I was ignorant of the fact.

In 1970 the Sun newspaper relaunched in 1960 and in 1970 started its topless pictures known as the Page 3 Girls eventaully they too very often lost their underwear but no pubic hair or genital shots. Other papers followed suit later but not always a s a daily feature like the Page 3 Girls. The girls pictures were soon pinups in every almost every predominatly male places of work canteens and snap cabins

In 1986 the Sunday Sport was launched. It was not a paper that men bought and took home among it other feature were advertas for almost anything sexual even disguised prostitution and soft core images of naked ladies. In 1991 they launched the Daily Sport exactly the same but sometimes had some real news in it.

I mention these two papers because of their progression. Initially it was topless women on the front page, objections led to stars being printed to hide nipples. The front page pictures became more revealing with blatent ass and pussy shots with wee star obscurity but no holds barred really,

What people from outside the UK won't realise is that rather than being on the uppr shelves in the shops they were now being placed in piles at foot level. Easier to stack them there but also right in the line of sight of everyone from babies on up. In time the models switched from naked to black underwear.. thong and bra pictures that still needed strategically placed stars and then on to bondage wear and mild depictions of bondage scenes and girl on girl shots. In 2011 the two papers went bankrupt.

Had they not done so how would their front page pictures progressed .. further decended might be more appropriate. And what had the minor titillation of seeing a woman's breasts in Parade to me as a boy come to for teenage boys a few decades later. They were now looking upon naked women in bondage in lesbian sex scenes as being everyday normal stuff.

I wrote in to a few places to lend my support to ending the front page shots. For a few reasons, one might say I was supporting censorship maybe I was. Although I considered carefully before not signing any petitions to end the publication in newspapers of the Page 3 Girls. After all who was being exploited. Some of the original Page 3 ers made very substantial amounts of money.

Porn continues to progress / evolve / dive.

But what are people's opinion of it? How d most people regard? How polarised if at all are the views of men and women?
Does it continue to have a place? Did it ever have one? Porn has been around since at least early china and the egyptians 4000 years ago but has it had its day or will it continue to be depicted in various forms for as long as there are people?

From the early days at the dawn of photography of wanna buy a (expensive) dirty post card... to free videos of women anally fisting on your cell phone, men that can ejaculate up to a half pint women squirting probably a pint of something unfeasibly large penises and women whose vaginas can accomodate an American Football a very large champagne bottle and a couple of fists. Where does that end and what would be the point of trying to follow that.,

I recall a kid at school made the mistake of bringing a full colour full on Swedish or Danish porn magazine to school. It was his dad's and he thought he'd bring it to school and get it home again undamaged. Needless to say with a hoarde of teenage boys all wanting to get a first look at images of things they had not even imagined it did not remain unscathed. As all the attention was by a very big group and was all outside it did at least remain unstained. But such images now would have litle or no effect we have it seems become accustomed some would say hardened to seeing such things.

    On the negative side.

Unrealistic expectations have been fostered a man is not a man if his penis is less than 8 inches and is more of a man if its bigger, men's and women's expectations of female figures is what was once Nude Miss World Level and she must be willing to have intercourse in all three orifices simultaneously. Im not sure what effect that has had on teenagers expectaions of their relationships being monogamous. Not to mention all the feelings of inadequacy that have arisen for both males and females. The average male penis is 5.1" and most women do not have breasts that would make them topple over nor do most men want them... And not all women have what some think is mandatory .. a thigh gap.

Exploitation.. who is being exploited.. the women that are forced into it of course but some porn 'Stars' men and women are on phenomenal money. Is it the people, usually men, that pay to see this stuff? Is it their finances that suffer as they feed what can become an addiction for some and consequently the finances of their families?

Then of course there is the question of how does porn depict people and some people's treatment of orthers? One could easily argue that just becauase of that all Porn should be illegal. Which would doubtless have the same effect as prohibition.

Over viewing or even the claimed 'obsession' with porn has been used by legal defences to mitigate the actions of some sick individuals who thought it was ok to work themselves up into a frenzy watching porn then thinking it was ok to attempt to or to actually rape someone.

For me watching porn justifies sexual assault of any kind about as much as trying to blame playing video games justifies acts of violence. Such mentally weak people really ought to be locked away somwhere and preferably with each other

    .................................................................................................................................................................

So .. what are your (hopefully considered) opinions?

Over the last decade or so I have noticed that sexual exploration of youngsters is more porn led than anything else. I find this worrying that young women are thinking that they should be performing like porn stars before they know anything about sexual pleasure.

With the depiction of almost instant sexual gratification, the art of sensual pleasure seems to be getting lost. For women especially this means that sexual acts will very often not be pleasurable the way they could be and this could lead to more and more of them being turned off of sexual relationships.

    Now there is a thought.

And not just vanilla sex either. You are righttMistress Jules this is a worrying trend. Aslo some of the girls whether they are above or below the age of consent certainly look as though they are minors.... a trend that really does need to be stopped... hard to police I can see but none-the less it is not good in that it could potentially encourage young women/girls to experiment with things way too soon. Not forgetting the effects of the potential expectations it may foster in young men/boys.... I see no good in this aspect of porn at all.

From a user perspective porn is a substitute for being with an actual sexual partner, either out of choice or necessity. As I said on the online censorship thread I believe that porn performers should be able to capitalise on their erotic capital to their own benefit each time a user benefits from such a substitute. Web camming is a technology that permits that which is a positive development in my view. Rehashed stolen porn online does not and for that reason I would like to see less of it.

As to the sometimes unwelcome pressure on mainly women to perform acts in real sex that male users have witnessed in watching porn, I think it’s a sub set of what must always have been the reality: namely people’s sexual behaviour varies; some enjoy wild things and others do not. Leaving aside criminal non consensual coercion, I would hope that people will find partners that pretty much match their wishes, possibly after painful earlier mismatches are experienced. Porn is an easy culprit to blame for mismatches but mismatches there will always be.

Only a couple of days ago I was talking to to a friend about this. How their sexual interests, sense of self and indulgence in stereotypes (even if well meaning) have been groomed by pornography and online chat rooms~ Compared to a man developing actual sexual experience and practicing it with various females healthily over the same span of time. Outcomes not only sexually, but also their social, career and personal sense of worth in being able to be physically present to achieve goals, rather than the dependence on immediate satisfaction, and the deeper loss when they can't be satisfied or end up having chronic obsessions to exceed the last goal achieved - healthy if you're working for it, unhealthy if you don't actually have to do anything productive mentally or physically to achieve it.

The online generation has suffered a massive impact from this, part of me is glad my parents were poorer and didnt let us stay inside squared eyed but forced up to play, be creative solve puzzles or read, and by the time tech was popular we didn't have as much of an interest in cyber life enough to develop unhealthy gratification from it over real life. I guess it most importantly taught us that nothing worth having long term in life is instantly attainable; a problem that internet accessibility has caused.

Interested in discussing with others too on how they've noticed this phenomenon or have managed with resetting basic human instincts numbed by 21st century tech.

It is the "downside" of global comunication added with the laziness of the modern life style, quick and easy. The solution is not try to ignore the trend, sooner or later it will catch you up. Your example is a good one, imagine how would be your life today without computers, phones and any other electronic device. It means that it was a matter of time that this things arrive to your life and yourself can judge that it had added more positive things that bad

Porn is not the issue, the society is ill, very ill, adult content is only one consecuence of the loss of the values and principles of today world, what many call progress i think it is going to be a darker civilization era than before, all that selfish, greedy and so on of individuals is going to have a high price in the future
