    Hi

For the forum it seems to already be there, but I cannot find any way of being constantly invisible for the chats. That leads to people contacting me in the chat constantly until I make myself invisible - but I have to do that every time.

I am more here to read through the forums and such (at least for now), so i would actually prefer to be able to completely disable the chat. I mean everybody will still be able to contact everybody via private messages, right?

    What do you think?

You should be able to have "MiniChat" set to permanently invisible.

If it's not doing so @L-u-c-y may be able to assist. :)

Hi, many thanks for your quick reply. How exactly can I achieve this?

The setting at the top of the list offers the chance to be invisible and also put a message in which can be politely discouraging.

As @Unlucky says, make sure you don't clear down your history or cookies.

Thanks to you and to @Unlucky.
I use my phone most of the times and sometimes my laptop. I do not clear the cookies on both items and it still changes ever so often back to being available.

So I would suggest something in the settings - like the one that you are invisible in the forum - where you can disable the minichat :)

I have attached a grab showing the options you get when you click on the three dots next to the Bell symbol

I have highlighted the line you need to select to be invisible and circled the part where you can cnage your message to all and sundry - but keep it polite ;)

Hi, thanks for the help, but that is exactly what I am flind. Still I am always online, i do not know what happens but it seems not to work properly on android with chrome...
The other thing that bothers me is that it keeps showing me an unread message although I have read every mini-chat message...

So I was thinking a setting in the preferences where you can even disable the whole mini-chat would be good :)

What can I say? I really don't like situations like this :(

Don't like saying it must or might be your system causing the problems, but no one else is shouting about it although only 50 or so folk have read this thread.

The chat system is an add-on that can be a bit flaky from time to time and the setting choices probably can't be integrated into the main system.

Will flag it up to @L-u-c-y for a tech review.

    Happy New year :)

I have the same issue but I haven't complained because I don't get bothered by the number with unread messages in the bottom corner. I did initially find it annoying because on both laptop and phone I had set it to invisible etc numerous times and it just kept coming back to available. I expect this behaviour between sessions as I use private mode but I always found it odd that within the same browsing session it would reset within 20 or so minutes. As far as I could tell cookies and session details were being persisted for the duration of private browsing but maybe the way the chat plugin works is not compatible with private mode or my browser?

For browsing I use Chrome on both laptop (OS X Mojave) and mobile device (Android).

As I say personally it doesn't bother me much that the invisible option does not persist, though I think it should be possible to opt out of it. Especially as for me to talk with someone I would use the forum private messaging and so for me I would happily fully opt myself out of it.

I guess for those it really annoys it would be possible to make a browser plugin specifically to hide the icon in the corner of the screen. Though rather an overkill approach haha

Though really the developer of the plugin could add the option to persist the users online state (at least if they choose invisible) to the database. At least I presume they are not doing that because if they were this problem should not exsist. I can understand why other states though would revert to available as being away or busy etc are just temporary states but opting to hide feels like something a user chooses to maintain until they opt back into an available state.

Anyway, happy new year everyone :)

    Little update:

I just found out that the message seems to be persisted, but the status itself is not.
I got contacted less, so maybe that is good enough for now :)

Although I would really really love the ability to disable the mini-chat ;)
