OK Hunny Absolutely true but one wonders as to why you have availed us with this information. Interesting as it is but how it relates to chastity ? Xx Wendy
The bar is indeed for discussing absolutely any topic. I'm not sure exactly what Siggy here is aiming to discuss but it's a breath of fresh air to see something here that's not dick or orgasm related. please do go on Siggy, Quantum Mechanics is fascinating
Well, quantum mechanics is basically dealing with reality by thinking of little packets of energy, called quanta. A lot of it is straightforward and obvious, such as electrons moving in discrete jumps from one energy state to another in an atom. It's when you realize that they don't exist in between these 'orbits' that it can start to mess with your head. That follows on from the uncertainty principle, and all manner of strangeness begins to happen. Fun!
Am I going to get told off for admitting that I once masturbated whilst listening to Let's get Physical by Olivia Newton Bomb? I mean, have you seen the cover to the single? Apologies for bringing down the tone of the thread. By the way, it was when the single came out, not recently!
I was just pointing out an odd little fact that by its nature reveals the absurdity of reality. Certainly puts her middle name and that old song in a different... light.
Well, we can still talk about quantum mechanics. Uncertainty principle? Feynman's 'sum over histories'? Entanglement? Any string theorists in the house?
My son is trying to get into University to study physics, he is really into all that stuff and tries to talk to me about it. He tends to lose me after 'hey, Dad....' I'm not sure I'm ready to introduce him to my chastity persona though.
Quantum entanglement is, as Einstein called it, "Spooky action at a distance" and one of the oddest quantum aspects. Briefly, it means that two particles which were once closely involved can apparently exchange information faster than the speed of light. If you measure one aspect of one of these particles, the other will instantly take on the same aspect, no matter how far apart they are. This has been verified to a distance of several kilometers, and there's no reason to suspect it wouldn't be true out to millions of light years as well. And no, the particles don't start out with this aspect predetermined before they are separated. The Uncertainty Principle sees to that. It's the kind of phenomena you may have to struggle to understand (esp. if you don't have a degree in Physics), but once you begin to glimpse the situation, it can be truly astonishing.
I regularly watch Veritasium and VSauce on YouTube. Both are excellent educators who cover science in an interesting and informative way. My own understanding of Science from school was destroyed by the idiot PE teacher who tried to teach me Physics, the Idiot Priest who tried to teach me Chemistry, the idiot buffoon who tried to teach me Maths and the downright dangerous Welsh loon who tried to teach me Biology.
She has popped up again due to the fact her daughter rebooted and mixed up one of her songs in the EDM / club scene. What is interesting about it is the video shows the interesting differences between sexuality of today ... and if you compare it to her mother's video ... the sexuality of the 1980s .... that being said ..... what I have found is that folks that are gifted musically whether through being able to make or whether being able to have an ear for it ... are not a far throw from really good engineers and scientists. .. Now that I unloaded that off topic statement ..... chastity versus quantum mechanics is are similar in that they are both expansions of the mind in areas people don't give a second thought to .... but in reality can be extremely fascinating
QM is something that's hard to discuss without the math background. There are a lot of books available that can help lay people like ourselves. I certainly have given it a second (and third) thought to. It's a step closer to understanding the true nature of reality.
I love the bit when these folks get into a tight corner and to get out of it invent a new symbol then write a book to explain why . I much prefer the physics where you build a drop dead gorgeous machine so big you can't see the end of it . And if the pipe at the end comes loose these little bits of stuff go through everything for ever and ever and ever ..... Until some being in another univers feels a prick on its ass and goes WTF ! Still concerned about a post that's not about chastity, Wendy? Anyway, the Uncertainly Principle means that nothing can ever cool to the point of Absolute Zero. This is the temperature at which all motion ceases (around -273C or -459F). Since the Uncertainly Principle means that you cannot know specific physical parameters of particles simultaneously (such as location and velocity), a particle cannot be motionless. This would allow you to know the exact location and speed of the particle. There is always a little jitter known as zero-state energy.
