I'm thinking of trying a cage with a urethral inserts/tube on it. However, the only sterile lube I have is Ultraseal sterile lubricating jelly, which contains glycerin - seems like a bad choice for a lube I'm using to insert something I'm going to leave in place. Though perhaps a yeast infection isn't as much of a concern in a urethra?

I have several non-sterile lubes. Packaged, so they're probably not much less clean than when they were made, but not designed for this either.

What do other folks use for this?

The few times I used my insert I stayed with a sterile water for insertion but I didn't wear mine for an extended period. I've considered using them again, and thought a catheter lube would work. Men who use catheters, have to have them in place for extended periods, while avoiding infection and irritation. There are several on the market, like Surgilube, that sound promising. Good luck.

I would not recommend lube for an insert. Obviously make sure the insert is sterile before use, but I have found that having a pee just before insert provides all the lubrication needed!

Wow I'm so surprised to see so many recommendations of using no lube. Every article about sounding says "lube, lube, lube". Do you find it's comfortable coming out? Is this for a metal insert or one of those flexible tube ones?

Metal for me. No problems with comfort going either direction. Though when you are first inserting go slow. Your urethra will stretch a little to accommodate the insert so just go slowly and gently until you are comfortable and used to it. But once you get over that initial hurdle, should be fine.

If you are using an instrument to stretch the urethra, a sterile lube like Surgilube is recommended.

Once you have stretched the urethra, only use cold water to wet the wand before insertion.

If you really want to use an insert, then you need sterile lube, aqua gel or ky jelly, I’m sure surgilibe is the same.

Surgilube is sterile all the others are not. If you use surgilube, squirt a gob onto a sterile gauze pad and don’t let the tube opening touch anything. I don’t recommend keeping a insert or catheter in for an extended period like 24 plus hours. You have a very good chance of getting an infection. Urethritis, and prostatitis are no fun. Believe me.
I had to wear a short catheter for 3 weeks. I also had a suprapubic tube. I was on antibiotics the whole time to prevent infections. I was also on meds to kill my night time erections so I wouldn’t pop my stitches.
So while the idea of wearing a urethral insert for extended periods sounds Uber hot, I wouldn’t recommend it.
