So, tonight I just showered while still locked in my cage for the first time and it went well. :+1:

Thing is, my Keyholder's Prize Cage has a brass lock that's open to the air (and water), so I'm tad concerned about it rusting over time. What are some signs that it may soon be time to replace the lock and how often would you all recommend it with regular daily showerings?

If it’s all brass. Brass does not rust. Never had a cage lock rust

My brass padlock occasionally gets corroded over time. The key will become difficult to open it. I use a little WD-40 on it to get it working smoothly once again.

I shower with it on all the time. I suspect it's something in the water because if I swim with it on in salt water, it gets corrosion build-up more quickly.

Yes, that's what I'm asking about here. How often does it happen?

Yes salt water will corrode Brass but it doesn’t rust. Usually turns green when it corrodes

Maybe once every 2-3 months depending on whether we've been to the beach or in swimming pools & hot tubs. I bought a set of 4 Master padlocks to replace the cheap one that came with my Vice Mini. They are all keyed the same so if I have difficulty getting one of them open, I swap it out with another one while the one I removed is soaking a little in WD-40.

That sounds reasonable... I don't swim so my lock's only exposure would be to water in the shower on a daily basis. I have a spare internal lock and key set from another cage that didn't work out for me but it's the same one my current cage uses. So, I guess I'm set then?

I would say yes. You can always just once in awhile work the lock with a little bit of wd40 or something similar when you remove the cage to clean it

The cheaper locks will corrode quite quickly, I used to have to replace the lock every few years master do a aluminium lock and there is a abus one to. But be carful as the bottom edges can be quite sharp.
