Balls popping out of ring and painful

either small ring or if plastic the gap at the bottom cage and ring has gotten slighty bigger over time

Retracting through the ring implies the ring is too big. His body may have adjusted over time. Also, temperature affects tightness, though probably not that dramatically.

Can you fit more than the first digit of a finger through the ring? That’s a decent gauge, at least.

 

I have the experience that over time I have had to wear a smaller size. Cold can be a real drag, as your retracting balls will do their best to slip through the ring. A good fitting ring though is in the long term much more comfortable. The size of the ring depends on the cage type and the distance from the ring to the cage. 45mm is not the same with every device, just be aware of that.

A temporary fix can be to put a piece of rubber lab hose (or anything else you can think of) over the ring to make it a bit tighter, but definitely a size smaller would be recommended. I really had to get used to a size smaller though, as they go per 5mm diameter, custom and more expensive cages go in smaller steps. 5mm diameter doesn't seem a lot, but it is.

 

On ball trap devices, it is the gap, the space between the cage and the ring, that holds the boys in. Small enough gap and they should never be able to pop out.

Too large of a ring can add room to the gap as well. Sounds like it’s a hinged device, if so and you want to keep doing this, I suggest you both do some looking at better fitting devices.

Within the last month, I started an experiment with a larger ring, going from 51x46 to 52 circular, which is a huge difference. The ring is a bit looser, but I angled the ring toward the cage so that the gap is even smaller than on the 51x46 ring, and I couldn't be happier. I'm not constantly adjusting and tugging skin, I've had zero wakeups at night, and there's nearly zero chance of popping a ball with the current gap. The downside to a large ring is that it's easier to pull things out the back...

The gap between the ring and the cage should be less than the size of his balls. It's tough to measure either, but if he's retracting through, then the gap is bigger than his balls. You might be able to bend the cage to close the gap if you're careful.

 

Yes. Gap size and base ring size both work together. I prefer rings without hinges. Solid rings are more comfy.

I’ve been able to bend the post on my cage (with advice from the maker) to modify a gap. I’ve experimented with big rings and small gaps and small rings and big gaps. There’s actually multiple solutions I believe. It really depends on his anatomy though.

I’ve ended up a medium ring, ovalised, and a medium gap. I tried smaller rings and smaller gaps and they work until I get my skin angry at me. It’s really hard to tell and predict sometimes.

I’d try a smaller ring and use lubrication to let the skin move around and settle in. I find I will finally rest without bunched up skin folded over. I think that’s key - don’t create areas to trap moisture, and don’t pull hair follicles.

 

Don’t let his balls get cool when flaccid. Dont trap blood.

Don’t cause “burns” in the skin. Use a little lubrication.

Try to get a fingertip under the ring when he’s calm and flaccid.

 

Oh and watch if this cage has a lot of “play” in the gap between the cage and the ring. If it moves forward and back due to mass-market tolerancing, then his balls will draw up, press the cage and ring apart. And wedge themselves in and “pop!” bsck one by one of the ring is large enough.

 

If he can get one finger in between the ring that perfect if he can get two then it’s to big

 

General rule of thumb seems to be just enough room to get your little finger in. Anything else is too big.
