So, not impressed with the keys that came with my lock. It's the low profile barrel type. I'd like a smaller functional key for the Mrs that she might feel comfortable wearing. Ideas on key replacement? Something shorter and less obtrusive (key has BDSM on it). Not our speed really.

Take a 1/2" dia. copper pipe the length of the key and flatten it. Drill a hole to hold the key and slide it in like a sleeve. Run a small padlock through the hole and key. Give the small padlock key to your key holder. That is how we do it.
2 things. First if you're at all handy, find a old time skeleton key, polish it, and cut the head off the barrel lock key and drill a hole into the axis, then solder the barrel lock key into it. Or... Skip the key on a chain thing altogether. Seriously, the idea is so junior high school. If you want the symbolism, buy her a little key pendant from a jewelry store. She can hide the actual key so you don't find it. A nice, expensive silver or gold key pendant that she can wear shows your appreciation of what she is doing for you.
You can order replacement locks with keys from Amazon/eBay. The key will be the same size but you can get one without bdsm on it.

Another option would be to simply take the key to a locksmith and get them to cut a new key copy onto a more suitable blank.
