Hello Everyone, I am Sweetness and new to being a key holder. My love (HerWish) and I are exploring chastity and in the process of doing the measurements for a jailbird. We purchased a cage early in March, used it with mixed reviews. The base ring was flat with a hinge in the middle that caused discomfort and I would have preferred a more open cage for teasing. We added moleskin over the hinge and tried to use lotion to prevent chafing, but still had some issues. That is what led us to look at a jailbird and here I am. I will ask a question - regarding measuring for the base ring - Is it normal to have chafing with the non-metal rings (plastic/rubber?) Is it something that you should just wear for a short period of time instead of for 8 hours at a time? I look forward gaining insights from others. SweetnessRules
I wouldn’t recommend wearing them for extended periods of time. The plastic is rough and has seams and is just not going to be comfortable. Use them just for sizing and don’t worry, the steel ring will be way more comfortable when it arrives. By the way, in my opinion you should go with the double base ring and the oval shape. Together those make for a very comfortable fit.
Thanks for the input, boisub. We were definitely going to go with the oval shape but had not looked at double base rings. I believe they cannot be re-sized - so will probably go with a single ring for the first one.

Welcome Sweetness. Steel and open is the way to go. A little chafing is normal at the beginning, use a little lotion to reduce friction. Be serious about his chastity, you won't believe how much it'll improve him, his attentiveness, and your relationship.

Welcome to the site. Having a good lotion is pretty important to the whole endeavor. Regardless of plastic or metal. I find baby oil gel an excellent lube/barrier to getting a solid ring on and keeping things running smoothly with the cage for multiple day wear. Good luck on your journey.
If you follow Mature Metal’s measurement guidelines, your future Jailbird will solve all of these problems. We bought a Queen’s Keep, which is very similar to the Jailbird. I have no comfort issues and it really never needs to come off for anything. The only time it’s been off since February was last week when I had to fly to Canada and back and we decided that removal was justified for going through security. Open design is the way to go for many reasons. We used a Holy Trainer for three years and the lack of hygiene access was a real pain (and a real odor!). The open design of my Queen’s Keep and your upcoming Jailbird allow sufficient hygiene access for indefinite wear. The teasing benefit of the open design is hard to put into words. For me it is much more intense because I can actually feel everything, but the design of the device makes orgasms impossible. I have tried masturbating in it more than once out of desperation and just can’t get there. I only manage to irritate my skin with all the rubbing. My wife always enjoyed teasing me in the old Holy Trainer, but now she really enjoys it and actually wants to initiate teasing without me starting things. She also gets really turned on knowing I can feel her. She loves watching me squirm and hearing me moan and breathe hard when she teases me now. Welcome to You, @SweetnessRules - i cannot add to any of the excellent advice You have already got. That said, i can share that in my short time wearing a plastic cage (Holy Trainer V2) i have not experienced much chafing - except for one bit that was entirely user-error. As for hygiene and odour, i found that regular cleaning (for me, once a week seems to work) is effective. i could probably do better if i had a proper power shower. The advice about lubricant and lotion is good - it has really made a huge difference in my limited experience. Lovely to have You here!
I do like the jailbird's open design. The current cage we use does not allow for me to tease by touching/stroking the skin, so is unsatisfying for me. I am looking forward to the jailbird and we will be ordering tonight. My Love, called Mature Metal today and they were very helpful and provided the reassurance that we have measured correctly.
