Swearing and foul language feedback

The biggest factor for me is that our forums are viewable to anyone, not just members. I may be an open, kinky crossdressing chastity weirdo, but darn it, I have SOME class. This isn't the chastity alley, its a mansion! private conversations, go for it, but in the forums we ought to have some manners! Just my two cents...

 

I occasionally swear in vocal communication. It's not something I'm proud of, but I admit that I do so upon occasion when frustrated (typically in private).

In forums, however, there's no immediacy: it's not an automatic reaction which you can't "help yourself" but instead you have time to review what you wrote before you click the "Post Reply" button.

Thus, unless you want to give the impression of being "potty-mouthed" then I feel there's no reason to do so: using foul language instead diminishes the tone of the conversation and if anything presents a negative impression of the person who used it (at least, I can't think of a reason why I'd be impressed that someone is able to use obscene terminology, unless, of course, they want to win a Rory Award ;-)

I think its important to note the the original poster made no mention whatsoever to censorship. I think this thread is a good reminder that just because we CAN do something doesnt always mean its in good taste to do so.

 

I agree with the point made by lockit. Common sense plays a big part, and context does as well. The original post made me wonder if I've been guilty of vulgar language here. I tend to make references to my cock rather than penis, and balls and sack instead of scrotum. In the context of this site, it would seem that the terms I use are slang vs. anything particularly offensive. Certainly, some foul language is appropriate in stories, fiction stories, etc., there is a whole sex genre of talking dirty. That said, aggressive all caps, all swearing, attacks by a member against another member are a completely different matter, and is not acceptable. I can't say I see much of that here.

 

I really see to much need for swearing or cussing in order to communicate with others in general conversation. Sometimes in the heat of an argument swearing will pop up. I for one am guilty of that, not that I'm condoning that, but it does happened. IMO as long as the cursing is not directed toward a group or an individual I don't see it as a big problem. When someone is constantly using curse words in their writings it just shows me their limited vocabulary. When that person is active on any board, anywhere, I tend to ignore those writings. People please don't be offended by cursing if it is not directed to you personally. I mean I'm offended by someone throwing a cigarette butt out of the car window, but that's just me. We all handle things in different ways.

That was simply not true.So yes you were second guessing.You only found out about the problem with the software later.
You seem to want to keep fixing things until they break.

Some of you seem to have got the wrong idea. It's not words like cock, balls or pussy that are offensive. They are to be expected on a chastity site. It's the unnecessary use of the F-word in threads, thrown in for no apparent reason.

 

I do not like gratuitous bad language and swearing for swearing's sake. It's IMO a matter of common courtesy and mutual respect. And manners.

The only argument would come when one person decides that all of a sudden there will be no swearing on a LIFESTYLE site.

Lets say, for sake of all things stupid, that this was a new rule on Mansion. No swearing!! No foul language!!

I have been thinking about this thread all day long. You know what offends me? Poor grammar. Bad punctuation. Spelling errors. But even that doesn't really bother me, because I realize that not everyone had the same level of education, and maybe, just maybe, some people are doing their best to communicate some pretty intense, complex emotions.

And you know what? If saying "fuck" helps them express themselves, I say go for it. People here get judged for being submissives, cucks, sissies, mistresses, and whatever else gets them off. Life can be hard, let's make this a safe place and avoid throwing any more judgment on the pile.

If you don't like how someone is expressing themselves, I respect that. All you have to do is stop reading.

But hey, that's just my fucking opinion. (Yeah, I went there. Live a little! )

My most honored Mansionites.. while the pixel snow falls around our posts, let's remember the spirit of the Season.. you know, greed, spending, half-hearted spirtuality, but most of all cookies. With the recent posts regarding censorship in general, and with the recent ruling in Canada regarding privacy and cell phones.. I think it's best to be nice to each other, have sweets, and carry on a lively respectful debate.

I appreciate @Mascara^Snake for bringing this up, and don't think it's fair that she be piled upon. IMHO there really is no need for foul language. Obviously the descriptive words for the things we're locking up are not included. As several have said, "use common sense." There are subjects I don't like on here, so I don't participate in discussions of those and don't read them in the first place. But foul language can show up anywhere. There are so many situations in life where it just wouldn't be appropriate, and everyone knows what those are. Some just want attention though, and use it anyway. I don't think there's anyone in here who hasn't been around it or that hasn't used it profusely at one point or another; we're all real people. But this IS the "Mansion" (as has also been pointed out) and we're all in here to share with and listen to the ideas and information of others, and as such as has ALSO been pointed out, we ought to be respectful of others and the fact that while some may not mind it, not everyone wants to be confronted with it.

But does not wanting to be inundated with foul language make someone weak and "not living in the real world?" Well, there's a great many who would say that of a man wearing panties and a tiny little cage on his manhood to prevent him from having an erection or using it for anything other than peeing, and, oh by the way, having nice smooth legs. No one is here to pass judgement on others (hopefully). A safe friendly environment for all would be splendid. Is that asking too much?
