    Hi i suppose the administrator is already aware of the latest spam about either viagra and now devices from someone purporting to be naveed someone or other..........can it be removed as it is very annoying
    thanks for the great site shame about tossers spamming on it.

    yes, it is going slow and it keeps logging me out and then i cant log back in. i wishes the spam people wud go away.

    whats the difference between this site and say Fetlife? i never seem to spot any outright spam on there. Is it a different system?

    I've reported a half dozen instances from several users today. One thing that we've done on the forums that I've been a mod for is mass IP blocks and it really reduces the amount of BS that the mods have to clean up.

    I'm pretty sure there is a generic block list on the vB users forum.

    A couple other methods are to require a Captcha during the registration process to cut down on bots, or set the site up so a mod has to approve the first few posts.

    captchas unfortunately are generally defeatable by bots these days. From my experience running a forum, I can say what works very well is adding custom questions to the registration form that cannot be easily parsed by a bot. For example, perhaps something like "what color is the sky when it is raining" or some such thing. It can be one or more random questions, that if not answered correctly, would not allow the registration to complete.

    I think primarily is that it's not in a "standard" forum system, so it's less easy to automate.

    That said, there is a lot of spammy behaviour on FetLife... but most of it is about individuals being spammy about their own groups, etc.; if you're on FetLife this writing of mine touches upon it: https://fetlife.com/users/523880/posts/1288872

    Strikes me there is perhaps a need for a few more mods, so that there will be less time between one logging off and the next logging on - I am admin on a couple of forums and though we fortunately get precious little spam, it is usually spotted, the user removed and his/her IP blocked in short order so the forums don't get cluttered up with spam.

    Where are the Mods I have been on most of the day and have not seen a single mod logged in. Plus what about the site Admin have not seen the Admin in forever.

    Does this mean the Admin does not care about the site anymore?

    I had a word with philfred tonight and he wanted people to Report any messages they feel need it. I reported a few and that was his "authorisation" to tackle the problem.

    When I spoke with him the spammer had 113 posts - this is now down to 48 but the posting continues :)

    As far as Admin is concerned - what can I say? I have emailed him and left a message for him on another site, but no reaction yet.

    It would be good to know what powers the Mods have as far as banning such nuisances.

    I have been deleting post for last 30 minutes..unfortunately, we mods cannot delete a member...so I will just keep deleting as fast as I can for now.......

    mods should be able to put a ban on a user. If they can not what is the use for a moderator.
