The crisp slap of her hand across his face was as loud as it was shocking. She fought to keep her look serious as she watched his reaction, knowing that she had to set the tone for the week. He was a good man, but weak, and while he thought he wanted a cruel Mistress for a wife, he couldn't actually make the commitment to what that actually meant on his own. She was OK with that.
