    I have been put in charge of the music and sound system for a large BDSM/fetish event in St Louis. While I inherited a large collection of music to use. Luckily with the advent of technology I won't have to man the wheels of steel and can enjoy the event.

    I thought I would solicit the wonderful users of Chastity Mansion.

    The question: what music gets you in the mood and what music do you use while playing?

    Thank you
    slacker

    Mistress and I don't use music much, but I found an excellent list of music for scenes yesterday.... It's organized by genre and can be found on the "Submissive Loving" site: http://www.submissiveloving.com/bdsmmusic.html (Just a note about their site, they have a pop-up for alt.com... nothing annoying or overly graphic, just a single pop-up, but still wanted to warn you)

    Odd timing for you to ask since I just happened across that page :) I did download the album "An Ancient Muse" by Loreena McKennitt and I must say, some of it is very dungeon-y especially "Incantation" I may look for more of the music they recommended...

    I saw a list many years ago that included songs by Basil Poledouris(I think form "The Hunt for Red October," and "Conan The Barbarian") I think another popular scene score is the soundtrack from "1492: Conquest of Paradise" from back in the 90s....

    I'll let you know if I remember anything else that would seem to fit

    Having been the AV guy for a number of large events, let me give you a few ideas from my past experiences;

    1) Know your audience - if it is a mixture of groups then go for a safe mix of constant beat, minimal vocals. Stay away from more eclectic music. Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Puddle of Mud, some Enigma, Snake River Conspiracy, Madonna and such will work okay for a lot of mixed crowds. You'll always get complaints, expect it.
    Make the music choices match the group. I have a group that loves classic music, another prefers heavy metal. Country and rap do not get a lot of kudos for play.

    2) If it is a themed party, make it work a bit with the theme but avoid being corny.

    3) If there is a schedule, make the music set the mood per the event schedule. As an example, for Bound By Love a number of years ago there was a 90 minute opening where dinner was served. The first 90 minutes of music was easy going and slowly built through the evening to harder sounding stuff and tapered off late that night.

    I have some personal mixes that start with soft sounds and Celtic music and move into metal and back to soft over a couple of hours.

    For a short list;

    Tangerine Dream, Nirvana, POM, Snake River, Madonna, Enigma, Crack the Sky, Alice Cooper, The Crystal Method, the list goes on.

    Nine Inch Nails are always good, I personally prefer anything Industrial for playtimes, Rob Zombie and Rammstein go down well too.

    In addition to industrial-tinged acts like NIN and Tool, I find trip-hop works well. Albums to check out:

    Maxinquaye by Tricky
    Dummy by Portishead
    Mezzanine by Massive Attack

    Thanks for reminding me guys. I need to put a CD together to carry in my "kit bag" because whenever we go to any rented dungeon all they seem to have is Enigma!

    The two clubs I've been to where music was a big feature in the night (as opposed to just scene music in a dungeon) are vastly different.

    Badlands - they are a Goth/Alternative so the music is mainly very shouty stuff by people I've never heard of... good none the less!

    Pedestal - London club, so is mainly very LOUD industrial, trance, rave.

    To be honest, if the music is too loud I get very frustrated. You can't play with someone new if you can't communicate!

    Let us know how it goes.

    I recommend Astor piazzolla Wim Mertens and Arvo Pärt.

    What about the chorus of The Hebrew Slaves from Verdi's " Nabucco"?

    Evanescence was powerful. I liked Butt Boy's scene/trance stuff.
