How do you draw the line between:

    Commitment & Desperation
Expressing sincere interest & being pushy
Making genuine compliments & flattering for personal motivation?

Just a few of the lines I'm questioning.

That's the point - that each pair are opposites.
And my question is, where do you draw the line between them?

I'm not sure I see the relationship between commitment and desperation, so I'll leave that one alone.

On the other two, the line for me is how invested you are in the outcome of the interaction.

Expressing sincere interest = Letting someone know what you want but allowing them to determine the next step

Being pushy = Telling someone what you want in a way that attempts to manipulate them into giving you what you want

Making genuine compliments = Offering praise with no agenda and no need for response

Flattering for personal motivations = Offering praise with an ulterior motive or a need for a particular response
