I used a solid base ring and assembly pin from my old CB2000. The assembly pin required a little bit of fabrication before it could be permenately attached to the base ring. This cage only weighs 2.5 ounces. That's a full ounce lighter than an off the shelf Contender from MCN. Add an Abus lock and the total weight is only 3.5 ounces. View attachment 26966

    It’s too bad no one seems to make base rings that metal, but hollow (i.e., tubular). That would give you the comfort of steel but without the weight.

    I'm not sure how much weight you would save by doing that. I had actually thought about doing the 3D printing option.
