I had a thought about locks and locking cylinders getting wet over a period of time. Should preventative measures be taken with the locks to prevent corrosion and sticking?
The locks that are higher than my pee hole have not seized or corroded. However, I had a barrel lock in my PA ring that corroded in reaction to my pee. It took some wiggling and jiggling to get the key to finally turn.
I have swum in the sea a number of times with no concerns and no problems with my lock. But if you're worried, rub a little Vaseline into the keyway. As it's quite thick it'll last a lot longer than lighter oils, and won't interfere with the lock when you need to open it.
Reminds me to lube my lock. I've had my Neosteel for 15+ years. Luber the lock around once a year and no problems yet.
I used to use the locking cylinders, and they would often get some oxydation or something like a petina on them.. So when I found a cage with an air lock, I use that now with a small zip tie to lock it in place.
