    Hi all,

I remember reading awhile ago that you can sand the CK cage and ring with sand paper with the chance of color also coming off. My question is what would be a good grit and type of sand paper? 600 Grit Wet or some other option?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can remove some color with sand paper. You can also restore that color with RIT dye.

As far as grit number goes, I recommend thinking like you would with.....wood. Only remember you are trying to smooth--not shape. So starting with 400 or 600 is a good idea.

Keep in mind as well that 3D printed plastic won't ever be sanded down to a mirror finish. You'll get to a point and that is good enough. Once you get things satin-smooth.....stop there. It will never get "shiny".

Personally, I like that little bit of "grip" the texture gives me.

I also have been ordering my new CK bits in "Virgin White" color......so sanding will have no negative impact.

And white is the new pink!!!

Depending on what I have lying around, I start at 200-300 and work my way up to 1000 or 1500. At the last and highest number, I wet sand. Before that, it’s all dry.

Wow, I never thought about this. I am not a fan at all of the finish of the ring, my balls need to have a little give to the ring and oil doesn't help. So I will try this, thanks.

Jack, I am not sure exactly what you mean by "this". If you can elaborate, I may be able to help you more specifically.

If you mean that the texture allows you to wear a slightly larger ring? I think that to be true. In fact, most "new" Cherry Keeper guys seem to say the same thing....."ring is too tight".....yet, they ordered one based on a smooth ring such as the CB XX series. The measurements are correct. It's just that the texture makes it SEEM tighter.....but it actually allows more room to "give" as you suggest.

Am I in the ballpark of what you mean?

Yes, I bought a ring just about the same size of my MM Jail Bird. I love my JB but it is heavy and it bothers me when I workout, so I thought about getting a lighter one. The CK ring in just about the same size as I said but there is no give to it because of the texture. And no matter how much oil I put on it, my balls just burn, it's hard to explain. Like I get the same feeling in my JB when I am being teased and they start to swell or tighten up. But I can live with that because it is short lived, with the CK, it is constant.

The best I can say Jack is to try different sizes and shapes. Not just round. I personally like the tall oval.....gives me the smallest amount of "burn"

It is oval, I'm going to try to sand it, not sure why that's not an option, it fits fine, but if it was smooth, I believe everything would be good.

the burning sensation is pressure. It's not friction. the idea is to shift/distribute/minimize the pressure of where the ring presses against you or pulls on you.

I found that the smallest cage, limiting growth, also limits the burn. So ring SHAPE matters a lot.

Bringing this thread back instead of a new one. For those with the white CK like me, what does sanding the base ring do for comfort?

I did not wear mine long term yet. In fact just tried it on during a 1 hour cleaning break from my JB. Felt really good for the 5 minutes! Also, When I did that I noticed that the base ring is very grippy. And it probably doesn’t slide around much. That can be good in the short term but isn’t it a problem over night when there are often many different levels of movement?

My JB base ring slides a little bit so that it doesn’t irritate my skin underneath the ballsac.

So I planned to do some sanding so the white base ring is less grippy, but wanted to know what the sanding does and if it changes how the ring sort of attaches itself to the skin. Thank you.

IMO, sanding makes all the difference. By doing what I described above, my CK’s feel similar to the stainless cages I have, but oh so much lighter.

With regard to the "grippiness/comfort" problem, try slapping on a lot of lube, and see what difference that makes.

By using lube, you've only changed one thing, you've lowered the friction of the surface.
If it makes it easier to wear, then that confirms it's the material surface that's the problem when dry, so get the sandpaper out to smooth the surface further.
If it doesn't make a difference, then it must be the size or shape.
