    Hi.

I have a knock off holy trainer, v3 I think. I've had to file the sharp edges of the ring where it connects to the tube, and hold the ring away from the shaft until the tube is slid on.

I'm wondering of the new version with the new lock is any better. They apparently have redesigned the tube, but are the edges still sharp?

    This is the reason.

Indeed. The sharp edges are nothing to do with the version of the cage and everything to do with how well it's manufactured. Being a knock-off, that's just a lottery.

Just use some fine grit sandpaper to remove the edges.
I did mine with something like 200-400-600-800-2000-3000 grit. It takes about 10 minutes, and is gets as smooth as a baby's bottom. Couldn't really get the clear shine back tough, might need a polish for that, maybe because I skipped a step. I couldn't really bother so it is bit matt.

I used the paper I also use for my car-paint. On the car I can get it back to full shine.
In an automotive shop you can get really fine grit paper. A normal hardware store usually doesn't have those grades.

Thanks for your responses. Yes I guessed an original rather than knock off would be less sharp, but wanted to hear a definitive response before shelling out the dough. I haven't heard a definitive answer to that. And I did attack the ring with sandpaper, which resulted in the tube fitting into the ring less and less snugly the more I rounded the edges. But that's OK and it's what I use when I alternate with my metal cage.
Thanks. Is that your personal experience with the HT?

I have a knock off and the real thing. The real thing is very obviously much better made; no requirement to clean rough edges. My knock off is a v4 and the real one is a v5; but there's much less loose play between ring and cage on the v5 (this may be standard between v4 and v5 anyway as the way the lock is integrated may weaken the join)

Same goes for the cb range, the originals are far superior to the knock off ones. No sharp edges or seams.

I've recently got a knock off V5 from eBay as a tester before shelling out the ££s on the real thing and it actually came with some fun grit paper to tidy up any sharp edges/seams it had from the manufacturing process. It was about 10 minutes work to get it totally smooth and now it's my EDC. I have tried several devices over the past 6 or so months since becoming the property of my Mistress and this one is the one I think is the best yet (hence me being in it most of the time) and we will definitely be purchasing the original in the future.
