My keyholder really wants my cage to be pink. Is there any way to color my Jailbird pink safely and permanently?

The best and safest way to find out is to contact the manufacturer to ask them.

Powder coating is the way to go.

Henkel has something the call the INOX-SPECTRAL® process which creates transparent layers consisting of chromium oxides on the surface giving a colored luster to the steel. Ferric oxide patinas will turn stainless brown. You can do a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) of titanium onto stainless to get gold, rose gold, rose copper, brass, brown, bronze, black or charcoal grey colors. Inox in Color provides colored stainless products. Anodizing isn't really much of an option.

None of the above are "do it yourself" processes. You either need to send your cage to someone who's invested the capital necessary to support the process and who will do 'custom' one-off items, or convince your cage manufacturer to invest in a process and equipment. Powder coating may be the only inexpensive option available.

    YMMV
