Hello! I'm relatively new to chastity and bought my first cherry keeper a few days ago. Love the device and the colors, but wanted to get a better understanding of how best to clean / sterilize the device. I'm currently cleaning with soap & water every day, but still concerned about bacterial growth. From searching here and around the internet, it seems there are a number of additional options. I'm currently exploring: 1. UV light 2. 70% isopropyl alcohol 3. Boiling in hot water 4. Polident denture tablets My device is colored blue, and I would like to absolutely ensure that the color does not get removed. Options 1 / 3 should be safe (?) for the device, but does anybody have any experience with 2 or 4?
We are here to help! You will likely find yourself lightly sanding the surfaces. This will remove some color. Very normal. You can easily freshen up the color with RIT dye. Works extremely well. Just soak the whole thing (without lock) in the dye. Good as new. As for cleaning, alcohol and some plastics is a bad idea. So is high heat. Use hot and soapy water. Then sterilize in hydrogen peroxide. You’ll actually see the bubbles bursting on the bacterial cells. You’ll be amazed. And when weather permits I dry In direct sunlight on the patio. You are wise to clean regularly. It’s just the smart thing to do. I own a few rings and cages. I just remove one, shower, put on a fresh one, then can clean and sterilize the original at my leisure.
I soak mine in a chlorine bleach solution. They are white though and not colored. Have been doing so for a couple years without any issues.
Thank you so much for the detailed response and the tip about Rit dye. I didn't know it was so easy to reapply the colors. I will definitely use Hydrogen Peroxide.
Before I used chlorine solution, the white cherry keeper used to yellow over time and was hard to clean. I now have two. On a weekly basis I switch them, and clean the dirty one. I use natural dish soap and a toothbrush to first clean the parts. Then I fill a pint glass with about an inch of bleach and the rest of the glass with hot water. I then soak for anywhere between 1 and 3 hrs. Rinse and dry. They remain very clean and no longer get yellow or retain odor or film on the surface. I have been doing this for well more than a year and the chlorine does not seem to have deteriorated the plastic thus far. I have not noticed any deleterious effects. good luck.
Oh and one more thing, I stick the back of the toothbrush in the glass to keep the parts submerged and every now and then when I walk by I stir the parts in the solution to mix things up.
Thank you for the tip. The yellowing is slight, but real. So im gonna give your method a serious spin.
