Hi All, Long time visitor, newbie poster. I've been playing around with creating a rear cable for my Behind Barz belt and figured I would share in case it gives anyone else any ideas. Pictures: Side Bottom Front Cage Connector Cable Cable (Front Cage connector) Cable (Back Plate) I'm still playing around with the design but so far it seems to be working pretty well for me. I anted to make the modifications without making any major changes to the original belt design. For the most part I was successful except for needing to widen the hole a bit on the back plate for the new wire connector. Most of the parts were ordered off of amazon, others I had around from other projects. Hopefully the pictures will give you an idea of how it works.. if there is interest I can try and put together a better how-to guide. Parts List: Plastic coated steal cable. (I had this already, I'm not sure of the thickness) Top connector - (Search Amazon: Swageless Terminal Wall Toggle for 1/8" Stainless Steel Cable) This part connects the wire to the back plate that was originally used with the steal rod that came with the belt. Bottom wire connector - I had this already, if I can find the name on Amazon I'll add it. This is similar to the upper connector but it connects to the eye bolt. (I riveted the connector to the eye bolt) Bottom cage connector - (Search Amazon: Sutermribor M4 Thread Shoulder Lifting Eye Bolt 304 Stainless) This is a 4mm eye bolt that screws into the connector at the bottom of the outer cage. Enjoy..
Hey another fellow rear cable modifier here! I made this flexible one as well. It's made from wire rope crimped onto threading on each end, then wrapped in heat shrink wrapping to cover the crimped section. The benefits are that the cable is a) easier to pull aside for #2, b) larger and surprisingly more comfortable, c) screws tight against the 2 end peices so there is no play and thus no clicking sounds as you walk. If anyone wants more info re the design happy to share.
Interesting - how did you do the crimping at the ends? I bought some plastic coated cable but the cable itself is too narrow for the end bits. Back to B&Q I go...
For crimping the ends, it was a little complicated but doable. There are many tools and supplies for stainless steel wire railings, available on Amazon. I used plastic coated wire rope, trimmed plastic coating off the ends, crimped onto matching sleeve, used metric thread tap to cut threads into the other side of sleeve, then put in a screw of the matching size. The crimp tool I used is for assembling car battery lugs.
