Does anyone know what product Neosteel uses either for their standard (black) coating or their ABC coating or a product that is similar? I have a tube that has some wear and would like to see if I can recoat it.
It is going to be sand blasted clean and coated with either something like teflon, or a metal coating containing copper/ silver, or a thermoplastic powder coating. The latter would be your standard coating. Edit: in case this is not clear, this is only my guess. But you won't have an easy time trying to DIY. You could try something like paint or plastidip but it won't last.
Thank you for the reply. I am not sure what the coating is either, but there's a spot where the original coating is actually peeling off not just chipped. In the past I have had good luck with food grade epoxy on a cheap steel belt, dipping or brushing it on and letting the excess drip off. It adheres to metal very well, although hard to say how long it can last. I may just try touching up rather than removing all off the existing coating as hand sanding this stuff would be tedious.
Be very careful with your choice of paints. I used nail varnish, and also an oil based paint, and both irriated my skin and left me sore for days (and not in a good way).
The epoxy I used before being food grade is also safe for direct contact with the skin and I didn't have any issues with it on the tube I coated it with at the time even after months of regular use. I'll just have to test how well it adheres to the Neosteel coating as at the time I was coating bare metal with it. Don't get me wrong, it is good advice to be sure the material is skin safe, even when they say it is.
It was called Amazing Quick Coat Epoxy. I can't find the original Amazon listing I purchased it from, but this looks like the same product on a different listing: https://a.co/d/i9mJDwo
