    This lady is huge!
She's been hanging with us all day and after reading about how they mate I thought I'd post.
The males die after copulation often while still attached, and she often eats them.
Ya know when they say nothing is free...

I’m glad our women don’t kill and eat us afterwards!! That would make things awkward!

That is one nice Argiope sp. most likely A.aurantia (if you are from US).
A.bruennichi is it's european cousin and for me these are the most beautiful spiders around (though I'm more a tarantula guy myself :))

I think we chaste boys are more likely to “eat” ourselves than our women are these days!

@BR_Saiph I couldn’t help but remember another thread you either started or posted to having to do with dominant females/female dominant cultures in sci-fi shows. As it turns out there is an episode of Star Trek Voyager where there’s an alien culture called the Taresians

They entice males of similar species to procreate with and result in the death of the make after they get it on lol. Couldn’t help but laugh at the irony after I read this thread lol. A short clip of the episode is posted above.
Wow I’m such a nerd, I love Star Trek!

Either that or the writers knew about garden spiders.
