There were 105 Bar pressure on the system which is really long and about 50 cm in diameter you could calculate the full volume of this gas by knowing the lenght, the inner diameter. This volume you could just multiply by 105 then you have the compressed gas under normalpressure at sealevel.
If then use the I think it was the avogadro constant ( long time since school) you can calculate the weight.

Well I dont believe they didnt place security valves i between so I guess there isnt the whole thing emptying.

What you talking about @jemima? Putin is a liberator. Good free people in parts of Ukraine have voted and they are now Russians….

    News from Germany.
The green coal-power plants will be running one longer year until 2024 whilst the not so green nuclear plants will be shut off next year and the very green and economic gas power plants are running and running.

    The agenda is so clueless.

The volume of the 4 pipes is roughly 7.5 cubic kilometers multiplied with the pressure difference from the water depth to surface, let’s say 100 bar then it’s 750 billion liters of gas which must be expelled. A asymptotic process but at the time near equilibrium the gas volume will be so low that turbulences are no problem.

For those who think that an actual visit of the people who wanted to blow it up was necessary, well you can also control a bomb remotely under water by ultra long rf waves.

Anyone who seriously thinks the US is risking an unprecedented tremor in transatlantic relations, reaching deep into NATO to make sure we buy their gas, is head over heels down the rabbit hole.

And if we wanted to, we could also buy GaZ from Russia through the old, existing pipelines. The pipelines have been able to sufficiently supply the EU for decades.

The United States has warned of attacks. Completely absurd to even think about it.

Ukraine doesn't have the skills to do that. Remained Poland, which would receive transit fees if we took GaZ from Russia again. But as with the US, the political price of doing so would simply be far too high to take that risk.

Russia has nothing to lose (politically), it was Russian property outside sovereign waters and therefore not an act of war against NATO.

But it was a clear threat of what anyone is capable of and would be willing to walk away from.

Added to this is the KGB's modus operandi, such as regularly executing dissidents at home and abroad in order to intimidate others.

If the Norway pipelines are blown up, maybe another one from Algeria and/or Morocco to the EU, the power cables that balance our RES with Norwegian pumped storage, data cables for Europe CIXes, then the EU will suddenly be in the Middle Ages and unable to act. This is at least as effective as a nuclear strike.

And the Russians are aware of that too.

The only question is how good China would find it if the European market collapsed.

North stream 1 is not russian. It belongs to gazprom and several other companies from europe whilst Nord stream 2 is completely russian. So the russians didnt destroy their own pipelines.
By the way would this be really idiotic also from the side of germany if the BND did something like this, because it is their costs and supply, trading fee and so on.

The only country which really has a benefit from it is the US - independent how deep your rabbit hole is.

The thing is, we will never find it out. So there is no reason to argue.
They, USA and German BND lied to us when they were searching for a reason to invade Irak and they will lie again and again.
The US very often used false flag attacks to have a reason for war. Not only in the mentioned issue above.
So in my opinion US, who also have big interests to destroy the strength of the european economy, did it.

"Pipes have a diameter of 1,220 mm (48 in), a wall thickness of 26.8 to 41 mm (other specification 38 mm (1.50 in)) and a working pressure of 220 bar (22 MPa; 3,200 psi)"

    The plot thickens:

"The sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines happened as the Baltic Pipe was being opened for natural gas to come in from the North Sea through Denmark to Poland."

Which official was quick to blame the US? The "Former Polish Defense Minister"!

150 meters of water is about 15 bar of pressure. 105 bar is a LOT of pressure. Is that how they really transport it?

Maybe ... Maybe Not. All man-made explosions leave tell-tale forensic evidence. From blast signatures and characteristics to chemical residues and other things that can be used to reverse engineer the explosive device and explosive material. Admittedly, any such examination becomes VERY DIFFICULT because the evidence is scattered under (salt) water, and I would hazard a guess that it will take some time before the damaged areas can be fully viewed / assessed and the evidence retrieved, examined and tested. AND ... a lot will depend on exactly WHO views / assesses the damaged areas, HOW the damaged areas are viewed / assessed, and finally WHO does the actual retrieval and forensic examination and testing of the evidence that is recovered.

Wikipedia even says it is more pressure:
"Der Einspeisedruck beträgt (Stand 2014) auf russischer Seite 220 bar, auf deutscher Seite kommen noch 110 bar an."
On russian side 220 bar on the german 110. I can't tell what happens between the input and the output.

Funfact. Several years ago my wife lived in Greifswald, which is near Lubmin. We were at the beach of Lubmin, where is an old nuclear facility from soviet times in the middle of the forest. There are just two pipes coming out of the water.

Nit sure how much salt is in the depth of the Baltic sea. But on the surface there is not too much. At Rostock, which is around Bornholm longitudinally, there is only a third of the salinity of the north sea. In the north of the baltic sea the water is freshwater.
But in the depth there might be much corrosion by salty water which is trapped there. The baltic sea has the relief of a fjord.

1.4 m Diameter compared with 1,220,000 m length is a very thin tube for a lot of gas. The pressure at the input is required to have a significant output pressure to result in an acceptable transport rate.

seems it can handle a lot more than 105 bar:
    "Gas travels the full 1,224
kilometre distance to Germany’s Baltic coast thanks to input pressures of up to
220 bar generated by Gazprom’s state-of-the-art Portovaya compressor station."

This fascinates me. I had NO idea the pressures were so high. What a piece of engineering. High pressure pipe....laying on a sea bed. That can’t be easy.

I never had any thoughts about it to be honest.
Sure I thought about the geopolitics and big events which disturbed the world order. But never how the gas is transported to us.

6 bar. About 180 psi? Rim crushing. Smiles.

I run 150 psi rear. 110 psi front.
