actually the film is 'based on' the novel of the same name, which is a fiction whose inspiration was actual people and events… for me, the novel is far far more interesting, and has way more depth and complexity as to the process and effects of Lili's journey… would love to read Einar/Lili's biographical account but unfortunately it's out of print and thus costs hundreds of dollars for a second-hand copy. of course, I understand that film is primarily a visual medium, and so focuses on the surface gloss, and that 'Hollywood' is in the business of fantasy and happy-endings, but the reality is a fascinating and not entirely comfortable journey...

here's more info on the background of the film: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2016/04/14/the-tragic-true-story-behind-the-danish-girl/

My wife and I watched it and liked it. However, as I tell my wife, when they say based on true events, that can mean there was once a guy who became a girl and all the other stuff is made up. :)

And it hardly had a happy ending! One of the best most uncomfortable films I ever watched.

I watched it last night and found it very sad, nevertheless I enjoyed the film and it made me feel very sad for the early transgendered people and the suffering and misunderstanding they had to endure.
