Howdy folks! I'm locked in with an Abus lock that has corners that are annoying my KH. Has anyone come up with a good method to sleeve the lock or otherwise make it less irritating to your KH?

    Thanks!

What type of lock do you have?

File the sharp corners to round them off. It’s pretty easy. The abus lock is soft metal

Ok so a paddle lock, what are you doing when it irritated her?
You could wrap it with a wash cloth and tape it, if she would allow you to remove the lock you could sand the edges rounding them over making them less abrasive

Spooning, cuddling up generally. Once I’m let out in a few months I might have to file/sand them but that’s less ideal than some kind of durable cover. Thanks!

What about some latex tubing which you can slide over the lock? Cut it to size and let it cover the edges

Shrink tubing works great. A little heat from a hair dryer and it shrinks down very nicely and you don't have to be unlocked to do it

Depending on your model you can have it replaced with a security screw… if you are handy with tools, you can thread your own security screw in place of the lock.

I’d thought of that, but I’m not that handy. I’d likely have to buy a new one. I’d rather defer that as much as possible.

Early days we used padlocks I filed down all the corners so was rounded off
Last cage we brought we went for one with a small barrel lock (secret lock or whatever they are call ) solved a lot of issues we had with not only cuddles but clothing

Agreed, a barrel lock would be better, but then I'd have to buy a new cage. I do appreciate all the ideas!

I took mine to my grinder and made it almost round , rounding the edges now it’s smooth .

I have the same lock on mine. I just filed down the corners and edges. Then used some 220 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. Took me maybe 5-10 minutes.

The body is brass so it is easy to smooth the edges.

And, after you wear it for a few years, the edges wear down nicely.

How did you smooth this down? I have the same problem.

Short term solution is to put some electrical tape over the edge, long term solution is simply get a new lock, I had the same problem with a abus lock, it actually cut the skin where I was poking out from between the bars, it was soon swapped out and I use it as my loop lock now.

A fine file will do the trick. You don’t need to remove very muck brass. Just take the edges off and the corners.

+1 - brass files easily. I also rub down with a medium grit paper afterwards and everything comes out peachy.
