I am a huge fan of the Kitchen Safe. It not only has the benefits mentioned above, it also makes things easier for a keyholder. She can just set the timer, and then doesn't have to worry about any begging.....the decision has already been made. My guess is that keyholders would love this feature the most.

I'm yet another advocate of the Kitchen Safe. Tonight I'm thinking of locking up but won't be able to give her the keys until tomorrow. The Kitchen Safe will keep me from backing out.

Technically I haven't been asked to lock up though so maybe I'll just enjoy the freedom... (Although sometimes locking up just seems, well, easier.)

Check out chastikey.com. It's a great app and website, imho. I'm using it right now as a matter of fact.

I'm pretty much the same. For me, given the lack of a KH, it's mostly about wearing a device rather than forced denial. In fact, I've gotten to the point that I don't even bother with an actual lock. Instead I just use a machine screw with a nut that tightens enough to stay in place. I then wear the device as long as I had planned, often to reach a goal of some sort (e.g., lose a few pounds, finish a project).

I think it would be cool to get a post office box at a post office that is a pain to get to then mail the key there. You have a few days til it gets there then you have to go through the trouble of going there. Otherwise, leave it at work and you won’t have access when you are most tempted.

There was just a local news story of a postal carrier hoarding 40,000 pieces of mail because he felt overwhelmed.

Toss keys in an ex-lovers backyard. The thought of seeing them again would be enough to keep me away :D

If you search Ebay for “multipurpose time lock” you will find a digital time lock which can be set to a maximum of 99 hours. And you can set it for any length of time between 1 minute and the 99 hour maximum. The lock is very easy to set up and is very sturdy indeed and although bigger than standard locks I think it is usable for a self locker.

All of these ideas have a theme in common, to make it difficult to get the key. I think it's ok to keep the key around and easily accessible should and emergency arise like unexpected severe pain etc. The important thing is that whatever method you use should take long enough to access the key so as to provide you ample opportunity to turn back, should the reason you're trying to get to it is a momentary lack of will power or spark of random urge.
