On the screws MCN uses: is the screw head deep enough so you get a good bite on the key? The key on my Jailbird barely fit into the head of the screw. So much that the key kept slipping out when I would try to turn it. I thought I would never be able to unscrew it sometimes. Also the screws were so small it took me forever to get the screw inserted and started straight to out it back in. It freaked me out so much I drilled out the threads and just went to a padlock. Just being honest. Do you feel secure turning the screw with the key in both directions on the MCN devices? Are screws better on some other device? TIA!
The thread on the screw will be a standard size. You could have just bought new screws and key from a different supplier. Even now, you could tap the hole to the next size up and get screws to fit.
I recall reading somewhere/sometime that Mature Metal uses a standard 8-32 machine screw. There are a couple of good options for “tamper resistant” screws and drivers that an owner could use if not happy with the standard key. In my experience, the key does slip sometime, but never enough that I couldn’t make it quite right or be concerned I could not get it out.
I had two screws and or keys strip out. I put a standard Allen key screw in it. That fact of the matter is you can easily get the security screws out with a pair of pliers. I had to use some after the screw stripped.
All of my MM screws have stripped for tightening, they always unscrew just fine. But that takes a lot of use. Maybe unlock less? LOL! The screws on the MCN are just standard security screws so it’s very easy to get a “key”. But they are a very secure fit and I’ve had no issues with stripping.
Just a note, if you countersink the security screw, the pliers can’t grip the head. Which is usually a good thing. Couple that with the screw @bondinchas showed and you may caged for while!
If I don't keep constant pressure while tightening the key will jump out. I've found that the key will not let you over tighten the screw. The Allen tool will. Getting the screw started can be tricky especially if I'm all greased up, just takes Patience. The threads are 8-32
One subtle thing I like about the Contenders over my Jailbirds is that MaleChastityNow’s collar and post line up flush. My wife can push the cage on, keep the two parts aligned the end, and holes all line up. I really don’t need to help her secure me at all. She uses her fingers first to feel the threads line up. We once started with the driver, but it’s better by hand. The 8-32 screws are large enough to work with pretty easily. Both MM and MCN use 3/8” long #8-32 machine screws. The keyed screws used by MM and Lori have only one orientation that will fully engage. I do find them hard to keep them engaged and on the keyed bit... so threading by hand helps. MCN also offers a high security option that involves a numbered seal. The screw is standard, except for the through-hole that accepts the wire seal.
Yes. If you get a threaded hole for a security screw, you can still use that threaded hole for a padlock shackle .
I've not had any problem with the screw head of my MCN security screw. But it only gets opened about once every 4-8 weeks so in the year and a half I've been wearing it, it hasn't been unscrewed that often! At some point I expect it might start to slip. The screw *does* sometimes start to loosen (especially if there's much vibrator or other play), so I generally use a bit of blue loctite on the threads. Once I used a bit too much, and my SL was having trouble unscrewing it. I took over and had to apply a fair bit of torque ... there was no slippage in the screw head.
For a while I had people reporting to me that their security screws were stripping. I determined it was because I was making the size of the threaded hole in the lock post too wide. Drilling a narrower hole in the lock post narrower solved the problem because the narrower hole created more deeply cut threads. However, this changed things in regard to using a padlock on a device setup for a security screw. The 1/8" shackle of a Master Lock will no longer pass through the narrower hole. In order to use a padlock on one of my devices setup for a security screw, you'll need to find a padlock whose shackle is narrower than 1/8". They're out there but these locks aren't very high quality. Wolfdog is a brand that comes to mind...sometimes these padlocks are included when purchasing one of the inexpensive, Asian made chastity devices.
Only issue I had with the hex head screws was the tool stripping the head. I would have to put considerable torque on them to keep the screws from loosening. Never had an issue with screws backing out. But on the occasions I was released I would have to be careful because the tool would slip and cause the screw head to strip some. The new screws are much nicer. Better grip with the new key design and the serrades mean you don't have to torque as hard to keep the screw from backing out.
The new MCN lock system (http://malechastitynow.com/mcn-lock-system/) has new uniquely keyed custom screws. MCN’s new key and screws only engage in one orientation. And they fit together incredibly well - my keyholding wife had the screw gripping the key! It feels very secure. She’s got me celebrating Locktober with these new MCN screws.
