Hi all! Well... I've been tinkering away and I have come up with a mod for my BL! After a previous discussion with 'I Walk the Line', I decided that I liked the thrill of being more secure in my Birdlocked. I realise a sharp pair of scissors totally negates this device, but why would one do that....? That wound also negate the entire chastity game with my wife-so it would be game over! But.... I like the idea of looking down and realising that there can be no unforced escape from the BL... IE: the ONLY way I could be released would be by my wife using the key to release me... So I decided that plastic strap and pin had to go!!! Although the pin has been redesigned, I still didn't want to take the risk of it breaking. And.... I could see my plastic strap stretching around the holes too. What I have done is replaced the strap and pin with a metal equivalent. I got a clevis pin in 316 stainless steel. The diameter is 6.35mm for those using metric (1/4 inch imperial). The useable length of the pin from the flange of the base to the tip is 9.12mm (23/64 inch) and the total length of the pin is 12.7mm (1/2 inch). I had to drill the hole in the pin out to 3.5mm (or approx 1/8 inch) to accept the lock hasp. I carefully filed this down to remove snags. Then I sourced some 304 stainless steel cable ties that were 12mm wide (or about 1/2 inch). I cut them to my desired length and drilled a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) hole in each end. I carefully filed down both the cut end and the holes, again removing anything that could tear the silicone of the Birdy! Finally, I got some plastic bushes that had an inside diameter of 6.35mm (1/4 inch) and cut them to length so that they held the cable tie down firmly when the lock is slipped through (ie: no play on the shaft of the clevis pin between the metal cable tie and the lock hasp!) Now when I look down I see the shiny, SS strap and know the locking pin is metal! So, combined with my silver PA chain, I have that added emotional charge of "Hey - there really IS no escape from this baby (unless I want to destroy it - which is NOT LIKELY!)" I think it looks GREAT and really reminds me about my choice!!! J
FYI... Here a some photos of the parts and the finished product! J Clevis pin and bush 12mm (1/2 inch) metal cable tie before being cut and drilled Final product!
I'm a big fan of improving the security. I don'y have a PA piercing though so I am still in the process of coming up with something fully comfortable but so secure that sneaking out is just too much hassle.
Thanks richlockedup! My wife and I added another benefit to this mod last night.... It can be engraved!!!! Now to come up with a suitable message.......! J
Double Awesome!!!! My advice is: 1. Make sure you use a SHARP drill bit when drilling the cable ties and; 2. Make sure the cable tie itself is SECURELY held when you drill! If it is not, it will spin violently and twist itself beyond use and/or if your fingers are anywhere near you could get dangerously injured! Good luck and I'm sooo happy this mod has been of use! With the absolute kindest regards. J
