    Hi all
There has been some controversy about some of the fantasy stuff and some of the dubious profiles in the last few days...
Jah Rubbings suggested a BULLSHIT button alongside the LIKE button...what says you?

Some people will call BS on everyone and ruin it for all. If you think it's BS just don't read it or block the person.

Right. But then apply the same standard to ladies and gentlemen. The reason this all came up is due to the fact that unverified women on this site are being trolled and unverified stories from men defended. That is wrong.

it would just cause antagonism. I do occasionally lapse and call out bullshit, but mostly I try to just ignore it. If I can see it's bullshit, everyone else can, too.

Yeah no point in antagonism...but the proposed button could be no more than a "dislike", no sanctions involved??

I agree that it could cause antagonism. But the antagonists are already there and trolling the unverified females. Striking a fair balance is the problem. Why does it matter more, and cause more antagonism if an unverified female is thought to be bullshitting than a guy? That is the real issue. Fantasy or Fact. We all love in the twilight zone between dreams and reality. Some people are finding their way in life by fantasizing, and it helps their own version of reality by believing that their stories are true. Good luck to them. I hope they can turn those thoughts into action and live the life they want. I defend their right to bullshit as much as I will defend another person's right to call it.

We all put our opinions out there, and nobody, whoever they are, except @L-u-c-y, who really does have dominion over all, should be above criticism, so long as it is done in a respectful manner.

Okay, I'm going to be "that guy".

It's worth noting that Facebook used to have dislike buttons, but dropped them years ago. However, they used th like/dislike count to control the flow and frequency of the display of those posts. Here, we have posts withing individual threads.

I moderate several large Reddit groups. In my experience, it seems that the down vote buttons (Reddit has up/down arrows) allow people to simply hit the Down, without leaving any comment as to why a post or comment is poor. This leads to fewer people actually calling BS on a post; in their minds, their work is done once they hit the button. But then Reddit also acts like FB, in that large vote numbers change how posts will show up.

On this forum, the Thumbs Up (Like) button doesn't *do* anything, except record a number. It doesn't promote posts, it doesn't make post more readable, it doesn't put them at the top of the thread.

A BS (Dislike) button would operate the same way. It wouldn't make the posts disappear, nor would it make the post less (or more) believable.

It *might* have a demoralizing effect on the handful of people who keep track of their imaginary internet karma. That's all. And my suspicion is that the more egregious offenders won't care, anyway.

Most people that call others out for BS or fake etc tend to be the ones that are themselves full of it

I wouldn't objective to having changing the "Like" to a "Reaction" if and only if the person leave a comment replying to the post they are reacting to. Far too often you will get spam of people reacting "dislike" because it is too easy to like or dislike something giving conflate results.

Just my opinion though. If you wanna like or react, you gotta leave a reply comment.

I think that's a little too facile. Most people jusfe what is true or false based on their own experience (including what they have learned from trusted sources).

I've had some people tell me flat out that they don't believe my own situation, because their wives would never want what Mrs Edge and I do. I get that. We fully admit that our way of doing things isn't for everybody.

This extends to others who play in a more bdsm relationship. If your only experience is simple handcuffs or a paddling, it's hard to tell if the guy writing about being caned nightly and permanent chastity is real, embellished, or totally fiction.

Must we have this debate every 6 months? Like the site is a democracy, news flash it isn't.
Do you want a button that alows other to shit all over your post?
    Hmmmm let me think.
Do you think that been able to mark a post you don't like with a bs tag will make you feel better, more fulfilled, happy that an injustice has been settled.
Perhaps other people will notice how smart you are at sniffing out the BS. You can have a sense of pride and accomplishment. You could set yourself up as sime kind of self styled moderator protecting us peons from posts that "you" don't think are true.

Just forget it and move on. It's ok not to be a jerk to other people. Some community's even encourage its members to get along. Roll your eyes at fantastical storys, if they become to egregious the mods will step In. Zealots need not apply. Sorry if you think im been harsh but this debate has been had before and it should be pretty obvious why the negatives outweigh the positives.

"BS" is very offensive. A button like "fictional? ;-)" may have the same effect, without sounding so negative.

So we are all agreed then. Only having a Bullshit button for unverified females is the way forward.
