It is my belief that the market is being disrupted. I don’t think people go to the movies as much because they have such easy access from home. “Life of Water” can be watched at home but to really get people in seats you need “BAM!” Thunder! Music! Action! Otherwise people don’t need the theater experience anymore. Just a theory.

I'm inclined to agree. I used to go weekly back in the day. TVs are getting bigger and sound systems cheaper.

I do like the act of going to the cinema though. My local cinemas are having a price war at the moment. £5 for an adult ticket. Can't complain too much I guess.

There are a couple of chains that now serve drinks and full dinners (pub food) at your seats. They will find ways to make the experience better than home, or they will phase out. I think we are not too far off from Paramount skipping movie theatres and premiering a movie on home screens for a hefty fee.

(Remember, in the old days, the studios *owned* the movie theatres, that was a big source of profit)

The movie people need to seek out in their homes is THE NINES, with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa McCarthy. It's a hidden gem, one of the most interesting scripts I've seen. I think you can rent it from Amazon right now, though I saw it free on Crackle many months ago.

We might actually go back to the old days where people will be going out to see live theatre more often. Movies are indeed just more convenient and better to watch in your own home. Why go out somewhere just to watch a movie. Something more in the area of a "live action" experience will begin to take off. What is old will be new again.

Tonight I've opted for the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.... Because I'm a big kid who's enough to think things were better in my day.

The sound track was crap but the movie was creative. Wasn’t Corey Feldman in that one?

Saw "Beast" a few days ago. Starring Jessie Buckley and the singer Johnny Flynn. Really enjoyed it. Great chemistry between the leads and quite original.

I saw “Ready Player One” it was pretty good. I thought it was missing some things though. The sound track was pretty good.

Movies are even being changed to be more politically correct. The original Star Wars had han solo firing first at greedo. They digitally remastered it where greedo fired first. It changes things. What’s next, pretty woman isn’t a hooker, she’s dancer?

Solo makes a little more sense to me now. I still can't believe they bothered to edit the original version. Next it will be Blazing Saddles or Space Balls!

They changed all the guns in E.T. to walkie talkies in the re-release... South park really ripped into that one

Last night I watched a film called ninja assassin.... Because it was called ninja assassin.

It's not winning any Oscars but it delivers on the expectations of the title :)

I had my kids this last weekend, so we went to the Drive Inn to see Incredibles 2. It was actually really good (and funny, too). I also must admit that I have a thing for Pixar and Dreamworks movies

Not really bothered about the cinema.. i realise a single guy going to a movie looks sad or a bit weird or worse to some. That would not bother me but i just have never really seen the point in paying to see something in an uncomfortable seat in a space full of strangers, they are inappropriately noisy, often smelly or their food is, up and down like yoyos carrying colds and worse and in some parts of the country they are points of transfer for bed bugs and fleas. Plus at home I can pause whenever i want, eat my dinner, lie down (not at the same time) and conduct myself as I please and drink what i want.

The last film I saw at a cinema was in 2011 when a then friend now my KH visited from the states and wanted to experience a UK cinema. Before that it was in 2003 part three of he Matrix with my ex and our gf. i fell asleep, in my defence i worked insane hours back then and it was a crap film. i might be due another cinema visit next year at this rate.

I find sequels are generally a let down but by no means always. If I choose to watch a movie rather than a type I prefer original concepts or at least a degree of originality.

Whilst there a re films they label as for kids or a woman's movie or a mans film such labels neither attract nor deter me.

Cant think of any particular performers or directors I follow. Though some have picked their films well. There are some others that I generally wont watch.

Though there are always those movies you see that have an impact on you as well.
Some books turn into movies well and vice versa and of course some books could have been good movies but failed.

Some films that you have not seen before perhaps that you would not normally select can surprise you too.

It happens too if we're honest that everyone else raves about a movie and it leaves you cold or you like something no-one lase does and it might even be cheesy or not well done.

As they say there is no accounting for taste.

Agree, I haven't seen a film at the pictures since the lord of the Rings trilogy.
Overpriced tickets, uncomfortable seats, horrible overpriced junk food, noisy rude people, mobile phones and (more often than not) pretty ropey sound and picture quality.
    Just why?
Decent home cinema systems w/ quality sound & big screens or projectors can be had for peanuts these days, and the time between cinema release & downloads being available is really not an issue.

I can get a visual/audio experience way better than most cinemas from the comfort of my front room, with my own sofa, my own food/beverage choice, and the remote all right there and for free.
    Absolute no brainer.

As @filtee said, most of the modern big blockbusters do absolutely nothing for me anyway, so I'm in no hurry whatsoever to see them. Oh look, more CGI. Yawn. What I'm interested in are acting performances, character development, cinematography, plot & dialogue. All much better experienced at home.

I like a trip to the cinema. I tend to go to late showings if I can help it. That usually avoids a lot of the annoying types... It does help that one of my friends is more than happy to tell noisy folk to shut the funk up if asking politely fails.

I can see why people stay home though. Films get a home release only a few months after the cinema and TVs and home cinema systems are getting better and cheaper.

Watched Jurassic World last night. I pulled a muscle in my leg because a scene made me jump out of my seat. I thought it was a great movie... a little scary.

I watched Star Trek 3: the search for Spock in a small independent cinema last night! I'd forgotten how funny some parts of this film are. They were definitely adding humour in to lighten up after the previous two films.. tonight's viewing; Star Trek 4... Pretty much a sci fi comedy with hippy undertones if memory serves.
