I haven’t heard that in years.

Pans are nice but I love my Twin Cam lots of power and nice and smooth. Much nice than the Evo it replaces.

There are restrictions related to the power of the bike rather than simply its engine size age and length of time since you passed your first full test. It is a little complicated
    https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-requirements
It did just used to be one test at 17 and ride what you like.

The gradually allowing increase in engine size for motorcycles kinda makes sense but it is not really justified when you consider that a 17yr old child can pass all the stages of their test in a 54 HP Smart Fortwo diesel top speed 83 mph 135 kmh on their 17th birthday and then mummy can buy it a 2014 McLaren P1 2014 148.9 mph in the afternoon and then be scraping said child off a wall somewhere by evening. That does not make sense.

Same in US- pretty congested here just outside of NYC so odds are stacked against us on 2 wheels
And the folks riding these high cc race bikes really make up the brunt of the fatalities. They’re just too fast and quiet.
I got my old pan head up to 85mph and was absolutely terrified!! Holding on for dear life!!

I don't see why you need a license to ride a bike anyway.i have been riding for almost 50 yrs and every accident I have been was the other drivers(auto) fault.

I know this won’t be popular with those who associate riding with “freedom” (in all caps with fireworks bursting around it), but: The fact that there are so many clueless drivers out there is really an argument in favor of enhanced licensing for motorcyclists — as a way of increasing your training and preparedness for dangerous situations you may encounter, even (especially) those caused by drivers.

It is of course also an argument for stricter licensing standards for drivers.

However, I don’t know how much road safety or defensive riding training actually goes into motorcycle licensing.

And I know that at least in the States, where driving a car is considered second only to owning a small arsenal in exercising our “freedom” (in a 72 point circus poster font superimposed on a glossy photo of a 4-pound bacon cheeseburger with a basket of jalapeño poppers and a Sousa march playing in the background), there won’t be much done to improve the safety skills of drivers.

I’m with you on training, but not mandatory beyond basic training.

I advocate riders take the MSF advanced class at least every few years. And I advocate the basic MSF class for EVERYONE. Not only will you learn to ride but you’ll learn to be a safer driver.

I don’t disagree with the points you make but unfortunately that’s not the case and a license is really just another tax. My driving test consisted of doing a figure 8 without falling over and knowing my hand turn signs- and no Im not that old that the electric brake light wasn’t invented yet!

The test in the UK is a lot harder to pass then when I done my test.
Its like two tests three if you count the CBT ( cycle basic training ) you need this to ride a 125cc on L plates.
I almost forgot you have the theory and hazard perception that are online in the training centre.

To think a few years ago all you had to do is drive round the block and do an emergency stop.
