I have been till now unaware of posts being moderated for language before is this a new thing?

Personally I have in place no objections to others using any word in the dictionary its all language and all acceptable to me. Misuse being another matter entirely.

Obviously there are some that may offend some but not others 'cunt' being one that is controversial ... some women (mainly) object to it very strongly some accept it as a very old word that they wish to see returned to everyday use by all. Both have their (in their view) legitimate reasons, some are just knee jerk reactions... I'm not saying that makes their reasoning less valid..

And of course there a few words related to race that are generally unacceptable. I don't use the ones I regard as offensive myself but again I do object to their misuse.

But CM Posts being moderated for language whether a new or long standing thing is perhaps something some might consider worthy of discussion.... and where better than in the BAR.

Thank you Miss L-u-c-y. I was not aware that the topic had been covered before and the thread closed.

And I totally agree with your comment.

Its just that I saw that a post had been labelled 'Moderated for Language' so naturally I was curious about this being done not having seen it before. From you comment it is clear you did not do it. Begging the question who did? And what are the rules?

i'm not aware of having used bad language on CM but given the range of opinion as to what some might not choose to accept its always nice to know what is an isn't permitted.

It can be easy to think bad lanuage is easily acceptable on a forum of such an adult nature. But bad language can also be seen as disrespectful. More often than not it should be possible to make a point without resorting to the use of bad language. Often bad language creeps in through people trying to express there emotion without taking a moment to calm down and really think through what they are saying.

I'm also aware it can sometimes be used to set a mood or atmosphere when telling a story. In these situations it can sometimes be harder to avoid.

I had one of my posts moderated only the other day.

"Henry kissinger can fuck off out of my thread"

Was removed with an accompanying moderator advisory.

I think for some people here its seen as ok to swear. Not sure exactly how it works though.

I think it's better if it's used to punctuate a point rather than just gratuitous foul languageness.

There are issues with language unconnected with swearing which usually result in post deletion.

In particular, posts which while perfectly otherwise unobjectionable, are written in a language other than English. This has been a substantial bone of contention in the past. This is a good time for other members' views on this. There was one prior (and very good) Mod who used Welsh occasionally and there have been views expressed backalong that this borders on discrimination.

Personally, I see both sides of the argument. There are insufficient Mods to check via babel fish or wherever the content of a foreign language post, which other members also would need to check before responding anyway; yet it is also a restriction on free speech.

    What do other members think?

You have to wonder what the next Really Bad Word Which Nobody Dares To Say is gonna be.
It's language. Words. Sound waves. Movements of hot air. I don't see why anyone should genuinely be offended by those. Sticks and stones, as they say.
But... public forums adult or otherwise are forced to walk the tightrope between censoring and upsetting people. It's just the way the world is. An unenviable task. Rather them than me. Whatever they do, they will be condemned by someone or other. Just one of those unwinnable arguments. You can never please everyone.

Respect other people's rights to express themselves as they choose. Don't take things you read personally, and don't post stuff which is deliberately hurtful. Pretty much all you can do.

Awhile back I had replied to a thread (someone’s that I consider a friend at least on this site) after he had upset his wife and misbehaved with “you poor bastard”. Meaning oh you are going to get it.

I was not actually calling him a bastard, I wasn’t referring to bastard as a derogatory word...it was a common saying of woe recognition and chuckling at his predicament.

It was altered for being rude, crass, and unacceptable to say in the presence of respectable ladies. I remember thinking (and replying) gosh....people can talk about pee drinking and cum eating without anyone blinking, but I say “you poor bastard” to a friend on his thread and I’m offending the masses!

I learned that conformity and a bit of acceptance is sometimes the price of belonging. I was upset for awhile, started a few threads in protest, and in general was disappointed in those that censored me. I got over it and in general decided that I liked being here more than my freedom of word choice. In all actuality, I haven’t heard of anyone getting censored by the language of their posts since the new owner and mod team took over. Only the intent of its content.

Give it time. Or maybe I’m just bored. So here’s a little something to stir the pot:

The word that was censored from your post was vulgar.

The obscenity was the mention of Henry Kissinger.

And in fact this sort of thing has happened a lot. As a Member whose third tenure as Mod was recently terminated I can confirm this. I recall, for example, a post earlier this year by another ex Mod, SubVerity ( who late 2017 as I recall indicated his desire to resign his tenure) in fairly excoriating language the inability to raise new threads on Sitewise, nor reply to most as they were closed. I agreed that it was immoderate but felt he could be cut some slack due to prior service, and the issue he raised was a valid one: I had also raised it myself prior. (It was later rectified at the request of yet anoyher Member). But SubVerity's post was substantially edited and his later post querying this was deleted entirely.

I post this neutrally as I do in fact see the Mods had a point too.

But be in no doubt: posts some Mods have not liked have indeed been deleted and/or edited, and sometimes not even with a Mod note.

Mascara^Snake was also a Mod years ago(even before my first tenure at Jens's invitation): and I recall edited quite a number herself, including her own, which became a very contentious matter, resulting in one very valued Member (and Mod both prior and since) wishing her account deleted (another story but she is now very active again indeed). All this was years ago now and before Jens eventually banned Mascara^Snake and also before Lucy became a Mod , and then reinstated her subsequently: a matter which is now thankfully ancient history and now long since resolved.

I put this neutrally too, just to put it into context. Mods editing/deleting posts is not a new phenomenon at all. Personally I am against doing this unless for very compelling reasons because this is a legacy site.

And I shall take very amiss indeed if THIS post be edited or deleted!

Editing swear words is not a new thing. This was a while ago on the watersports thread. The edit was for Bl***y

Water sports is something I have no interest in. I think I would find unpleasant, what I find more unpleasant is kink shaming.
Its been said already the thread had a warning if you don't like it move along.
Who the hell has the right to tell members there kink is wrong.
All kinks that don't fit in with type of chastity should have its own section hidden under the counter.

Should we have a section for members who use a chastity device and do nothing more thatn lock and unlock.
Its not cutting edge, its not fashion and its not vanilla its a kink, pure and simple!
So one person kink is not for anothers fine. There is plenty of room here for everyone.
Even the ones who are so stuck up they think their way is the only way.

[Edit - swear removed - good rant though! Thanks, Verity]

I hope not. I also hope that with the passage of time all can have been resolved. Panta rhei, as @HollyC would have said. It is no secret that when we were Mods together, and subsequently, you and I agreed about hardly anything. But this is now ancient history. Time to move on. More on this on another thread later when I get round to it.

    Best wishes

    Joro
