I bought this plastic pistol box. It has holes for two locks. I put 4-digit combo locks in each hole, each lock with a different combo. I used the timelock imaging app to take photos of the lock combos (without looking, of course) then locked the box. The foam in the box has slits in it, so I put the key into the slit in the foam so I couldn't just rattle the box with the latches open until the key fell out.

Sometimes if I felt really daring I would close my eyes when setting the timelock app duration, and wouldn't know when the time would be up.

In an emergency the plastic hole around the lock could be cut. But the box would be ruined and I'd be out $40. I kept the box with me in my work vehicle, and I did have to cut it once when I realized that I would have to go thru a metal detector and I was too scared of having to explain my "body jewelry"! LOL.

I found these at Harbor Freight.

If you are in a stainless steel cage that is fairly open, you don't need to remove it all that often. That, is a proven fact.

My keyholder put my key into an envelope, with a sweet note on the card the key was taped to, and sealed it up. It is very obvious if it has been opened. I did open it twice for emergencies out of town. Once for a unplanned doctor appointment, and once when I partially pulled out of the cage due to physical gymnastics. It hurt like hell so it had to be removed and replaced.

She has to be able to trust you, and you need to prove it. Keep it simple.

I opted for realtor lock box. Like the idea of resettable combo lock. But using a numbered tag on a small box, like a tick tack box would be good too.

Someone was making us an over the phone controlled keysafe but seemed to lose interest and never bothered to explain why. In over their head perhaps and did not want to admit it ...I really dont know but...

We are quite happy using this set up now
    upload_2021-5-1_2-40-25.png

Relatively inexpensive a piece of slightly flattened pipe drilled and sprayed black keys cant be accessed without it being evident.

Easy to take with me if necessary and just thrown in a drawer at home

Does all we want it to do.

We went with a few homemade key vaults. Just a notched piece of stainless tubing.
The primary key is secured with a 4 digit combo lock (only my KH has the combo). She let's me out when she chooses.
If I need an emergency release, the second key is secured with a tamper seal.
Low tech but it works for us. Secured Keys upload.jpg

I've been looking around for something that has a timed lock. You put the key inside, lock it, and it can't be opened until the time expires.

Searching around I found some cheap plastic ones which can easily be destroyed or broken to obtain the key. Then I found a few small safes which could be set to open on a specific day and time, but the longest was seven days.

So after several efforts and periods of scouring the internet for something good enough for self-locking but still within a reasonable price, I came across this gem: the Genie Hand time lock countdown safe. Price is $200, which is much lower than the five or six devices/belts I've purchased over the years.

You can set the time limit from one minute all the way up to 100 days. Incredibly simple to operate and runs on batteries, so (if you need to) you can bring it with you. The keypad allows for a code three to six digits in length. But even if you put in the correct code, the safe won't open until the countdown expires.

There are two "emergency keys" you can use to override the countdown if you need to open the safe. But those keys can easily be stored somewhere else or given to someone so you remove the temptation of opening it early.

I bought the safe a few weeks ago and I have to say, this is the best option I've found for self-locking if you're looking for a way to have no way out on your own.

The mistress keeps the keys in an old portable safe, the key of the safe is fixed with an Abus lock on the handle of the safe. The Abus lock can only be opened with a fingerprint.

We use a biometric gun safe. Only her fingerprints will open it and the emergency key for that is locked in a realtor key box.

There are solutions upon solutions to this "problem". Especially if it is a long distance relationship or online education. But even with us, in marriage, there must be an emergency key. Something can always happen, we hope that it never happens that one of us fails.

We bought a nice wooden box for it and a seal stamp.

There in an envelope, in the envelope the emergency key and the letter sealed and signed.

Should it ever be necessary, I only need to go to the box, open the envelope and have the key in my hand.

We use the igloo home smart lock box. She can send me a 1 time code to open it. She also likes to leave it lay around so I see it, but can't do anything about it.
