    Hi,

We are looking at a number of devices but the ones which include an integrated lock typically have very boring key designs. We like the idea of the integrated lock as it reduces the noise and size of the device but we would like an attractive key design as it is worn around the neck. Does anyone know of a way to improve this? I imagine this is a common issue, perhaps custom made keys are a solution?

She likes the current key as is a simple design with a heart shape at the top where the necklace thread goes through. So it looks like a piece of jewlery which is nice, and so a purely functional key design is not ideal.

I've been thinking along the same lines with the 'magic locker' type keys. The key doesn't need to be so long so considering cutting one right down to the bare minimum and incorporating it into a charm for a Pandora bracelet.

That is a nice idea. However I would prefer to have it in a similar way as out current design (as you can see in our picture)
So did someone maybe replicated the key into a more intriguing design?

My avatar is an integrated lock key, cut down, and attached to an antique heart key. Polished. If you have questions on the process, it was easy and can easily explain the process with limited amount of tools or skill. I put a gasp on it anshe wears it on her necklace as a pendant.

I had asked this question about getting a custom made key for a padlock. Things have moved along and now we’re on the intergrated locks.

I wonder how easy it would be to make a custom design jewellery grade key in silver or gold?

I love it when my wife can wear my key. It’s a constant reminder seeing it hanging for all to see

Wow, it looks EXACTLY like what I had in mind. It even looks much prettier than what we have at the moment. and if you invest your own time in the end it is something unique just made for us. So please do explain the process as I can definitely imagine wearing that.
First question would be where you got this beautiful antique key? And then process did you go through and what kind of tools did you need for it?

I got an antique key from eBay, it is hollow at the end so I just needed to measure how much of the cage key to cut off to insert it.

Then took a dremel tool, cut the key off to length needed to insert with only the teeth showing, then cut it length wise so it would fit inside. So far the only tools needed is a dremel and a small Vice to hold it while you work.

Then I cut off the actual teeth part of the antique key. I used the polishing kit for dremel and smoothed out any edges and polished it to a shine.

I put some clear epoxy/clear jb weld on the key and inserted it into the antique key. I then put it in a vice for 24 hrs. Used the dremel to smooth any rough spots. I drilled a tiny hole at the top and put in a necklace hasp (I took apart one of her junk necklaces for parts). I even used the lobster hook part so she can take it off her necklace easily lol.

All done. About 2 hours of messing around and 24 hours to let it cure.

Hope that gave you some ideas.

Thank you so much. That gives me the confidence I need for us to make the "ordinary" keys look brilliant :)
