I do think they must be going more mainstream. China wouldn't be making them if they wasn't selling. Every locktober will probably boost numbers. I think hearing about the last one put chastity on my radar.

 

It is certainly becoming similar in status, at least for males. For many couples, sex toys that both can use, to be the sub or dom, probably remain more popular. But chastity devices allow for extended play, where a wife or girlfriend can provide more excitement for their partner with minimal effort on her part. Also, it can led in more extensive, real-life experimenting easier than just a pair of cuffs. As others have noted, chastity is becoming much more mainstream.

I don't think so. The 'cheap handcuffs and by virtue of the fact Ann Summers sells then, are a part of the acceptable face of mainstream bondage. I think chastity is still more in the darker corners and by virtue of the fact it's a male fetish thing generally.

Personally, I'd love to see some mainstream porn videos with chastity devices. Nothing kinky... just show the girlfriend/wife casually removing the cage right before they have sex. Or leave the cage on, make no mention of it, and just do everything else but penetration/ejaculation. I think this could actually showcase the chastity lifestyle to mainstream porn viewers (i.e., most people) and demonstrate how it does not have to be so closely linked with kink and other fetishes.

Um, yes? Sure, they're not everyone's cup of tea, but your quick dismissal isn't really fair. I'll equate Cosmo to the Nickelbacks and Twilights of the world... in spite of the constant vitriol they've received across the internet, they simultaneously sold millions of units and remained really popular among their target audiences for many years.

You can certainly question the quality of Cosmo's usual content if you like, but I'd say that sort of mainstream exposure for chastity is a positive thing along the lines of what @Miss Amandas boy was suggesting.

 

I don't know what the nicklebacks are, or the twilights for that matter, but I said nothing of the quality of Cosmo's content.

Will chastity become the new 'method'? I think the two have significant enough differences so that one won't replace the other. But, is chastity growing in popularity? Absolutely!

For me chastity is about commitment, bandanas/handcuffs are about fun.

Will commitment become more of a thing? I certainly hope so! Most guys could use a few lessons in manners - and once a gentleman, there is no going back.

 

I remember seeing a documentary on tv, (maybe channel 4 or 5), where couples were to try new things each week to spice up their sex lives, and report the results. One week they were given a box of sex toys, and in there was a chastity cage amongst the other things like gags and handcuffs.

A man in handcuffs is useless around the house. A man in a chastity cage can make money, clean the house and take care of the kids. So ditch the cuffs and welcome the cage.

 

I’m not sure they will replace hand cuffs, but it is a lot more mainstream, I saw chastity cages in our local sex shop a few years ago for the first time, and as other have said, it’s has had media exposure to.
