I have had one similar but it asked to have a electronic transfer that u can do at various stores. I didn’t.

I also had one that it locked all my photos and still can’t get to them, they wanted money for unlocking them.

All in all, pretty clever. Sure beats the Nigerian prince that needs help getting to his millions.

I actually got hit with a ransomware virus a few years back. It infected my computers in my small business and I had to pay the ransom to get them unlocked. I know a guy in the FBI and asked him about this and he said they were aware of it, but didn't do anything on a case by case basis. He told me to pay the ransom as they have a good history of unlocking once ransom is paid. Hardest part was buying bitcoins. At the time there was only one place in the state that had a machine that converted dollars to bitcoins. Funny part is because of conversion rate and fees I had to purchase more bitcoin than I needed. If I could figure out how to access what was left over now, it would probably be worth as much as the original ransom.
