    What material will you print it with? PLA is not suitable at all. ABS, maybe if it has 100% infill but nylon would be ideal (hard to do on a home machine).

    I think you can prototype in PETG and sand out imperfections. Maybe good enough for wear with some sanding. Once perfected you can get it professionally printed in nylon.

    You could possibly work with Shapeways to make your custom cage.
