Always be careful of Internet of Things (IoT) devices- all software has bugs and security software has security bugs.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-54436575
"A security flaw in a hi-tech chastity belt for men made it possible for hackers to remotely lock all the devices in use simultaneously.

The internet-linked sheath has no manual override, so owners might have been faced with the prospect of having to use a grinder or bolt cutter to free themselves from its metal clamp.

The sex toy's app has been fixed by its Chinese developer after a team of UK security professionals flagged the bug."
    [...]

At least they fixed this bug.

I work in security. Unless you have a specific reason to expect the security of a product to be good, you should expect it to be heart-stoppingly terrible.

I'm sure it can still be hacked. But let's be realistic that most ball trap devices are not escape proof anyway, so I would think that most men would be able to remove a faulty or hacked device anyway.

Thànks @koala I spotted that this afternoon and thought it worthy of a post :)

What interests me as much as anything is that Auntie BBC would publish the article - and have it on the front page as well as the technology section.

    Are the times changing?

Intresting that they think there are around 40k devices out there. I dont think the cellmate is one of the most popular devices. If we knew how many people on this site had one we might be able to extrapolate a ballpark figure for the amount of locked guys out there.

More worrisome, there was a lot of personal information exposed... including location and everything else the app knows. Rather interesting distribution...

Agreed, the data breach is more harmfull than getting locked!

The Cellmate can quite easily removed without any tools or harm down below!

. . . . and none in Spain or Portugal! Is olive oil a good release agent?
